:yeahthat:

I took my kids to the breakfast w/ santa last year and it was awesome. They had a great time and the price was very reasonable for all the different types of things they had.

I would be willing to bet the seafood dinner will be just as good.

I have had it, it was good, but I can't comment on the price because it was a company event.

However most everything was excellent, the Snow Crab legs were my favorite and were kept fresh and weren't over cooked which is often a problem when getinng them "out".

The fried oysters were good and the fried shrimp good also, the steam shrimp were over cooked however and were hard to peel and tasted somewhat chewy.

I'd give it an 8/10 for seafood bufets.

I haven't tried Rod n Reels breakfast buffet so I don't know just how good it is, but for a nice morning drive try Annie's over the Bay Bridge on Kent Island for their breakfast buffet a little pricey but really, really good, you won't want any lunch or dinner after you go there..

Are we talking about the Rod N Reel in Chesapeake Beach? If so, I will agree that the breakfast buffet is good but that's about it. If you are into atmosphere, it's nice but the food really isn't that special and they are a little pricey. My wife and I went there two weeks ago just to have 2 drinks each and a couple of appetizers. Both appetizers were $12.95 each (one was about 6-7 shrimp, the other was a crab dip thing) For $13, they weren't much to look at and by the time we got our drinks and added the tip, our bill was about $66. It's a good thing we weren't that hungry. Oh well, just my 2 cents.

You spent the other half your bill on drinks, did they make up for the lousy appetizers?

I've never been there or even heard of it, but that name is awful. It sounds like a tackle shop name. I would have never thought Rod 'n' Reel was the name of a restaurant.

That restaurant has been there for years, I am 30 and I can remember going by as a kid on the way to pee wee football games.

I think that kind of name is pretty typical of seafood resturants anywhere. How about the "Rusty Rudder"? That is a good seafood restaurant. Like I said I think these kind of names are typical of seafood joints everywhere.

BTW- I have no connection to the Rod 'n Reel what so ever, it could go out buisness tomorrow and I wouldn't care.

This Old guy is old and I've been going there since the early 50's, Cheaspeake Beach and North Beach were a favorite of my mother, we use to load up in the 38 Studebaker and head to the beach. When the beach was there you had to go what seemed about a mile out for the water to get over your head.

Proably very few people in the Washington area who have been around for awhile haven't heard of the Rod n Reel.

Both the breakfast and dinner on Friday nights "buffet" is worth the price. The dinner includes all major seafoods and sides. Deserts could be improved however once you eat 10lbs of crab legs who has room for desert.

On a side note if ever your in Va Beach/Norfork, try Captain Georges Seafood Buffet, while its 30-40 a person, you wont leave disappointed!

The locals call it the "Rotten Eel." Try Neptunes or Thursdays if you are in the area. Much better!

Or better yet IMO...Mango's (in Rosehaven) or West Lawn Inn (unless you're price sensitive).

I agree. Both good suggestions. Rod N Reel's food isn't that bad especially if you like your seafood fried but it seems like you could get the same quality food at the Red Lobster for half the price.

Rod n Reel is good food.........But I'd rather have Copseys for seafood. And at Copseys the price is more reasonable. Great food!

Rod n Reel to me is more well known for there breakfast buffet. Actually what there really known for is the so called video bingo machines (I call them slots)

ok here is my review....

We went on Friday and got there about 5:30. We had planned on getting there right at 5 but were running a tad late. I had not made a reservation since there were just 4 of us and we were planning on getting there when they opened. BIG MISTAKE! They were only seating at a few tables and since it is a buffet people can take a while. It took us about 45 mins to be seated and we were 2nd on the list! we noticed that the whole upper level was empty and thought they just were not using it. turns out it was for a wedding party. Wish we would of been told because then we would of understood the long wait. So anyway we finally get seated and start eating. The line was usually only a few people long if that.....THEN the groups came! There was the wedding party and another group in the back room. The line went from nothing to the BACKof the back room. Thankfully we were almost done. The crab legs were great. Not overcooked at all. They also had some buffalo breaded shrimp that was good too. Myself and my youngest also tried the fried oysters which were good and DH had the regular fried shrimp which he liked. We did not try the meat they had nor any of the fish. So overall it wasvery good and we were happy. For 2 adults, one 2 yo getting the buffet and one 3 yo getting chicken tenders and just soda it was $80 before tip. The only thing we will do different next time is make a reservation for 5 AND make sure there are not to many large groups!
