Anyone got info. Just traveled through the area about 30 minutes ago. At Cox Road SB, sign said accident ahead, then detour, but no lights or other info to signify. No flares, etc. Anyway, further down, came upon large area with SMECO working with SHA on both sides of Route 4. Large, multi-span, feeders on utility pole, clipped in two, and side of building bit further down missing. I think it might have been the Surrey Inn/Mexico Rest.

Any info. Was this a chase? Fatal, Injuries? Never saw a road sign with the accident message before. They were crossing traffic over to the NB, with 2 single lanes of traffic in each direction.

Hope the SMECO crew and SHA stay safe.

Ooh, wow. Well, I don't know what happened, but I wonder if it had anything to do with why my electricity surged & then cable went out last night right about 10pm. Immediately after that happened, I could hear a ton of sirens from PF going north.

Yep, happened right around 10 and from what I was hearing there were no serious injuries. I won't say this is true, but just saying from what I was hearing on the scanner. The reception on the radios has been lousy for the past several days and last night I was only chatching parts of the call and there was something else going on that I couldn't catch. I saw flares in front of the Wawa this morning and flare marks in the intersecdtion.

"Routine Traffic Stop Turns into Accident
HUNTINGTOWN – 05/24/2009

CALVERT COUNTY, MD - At approximately 9:55 pm, on Sunday, May 24th, the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad had a report of an auto accident at the Mexico Restaurant. This is just south of Hillside Court on Route 4 South.

Story as told at this time was a routine traffic stop, but the driver of the minivan decided to run from police. After a short chase, the minivan ran off the road and struck the power pole cutting it off and having the pole fall to ground as shown in pictures.

After striking the power pole, the vehicle then struck the Mexico Restaurant sign and then striking the blue Altima and at least two other vehicles were damaged. The impact of the minivan striking the vehicle forced the car into a small motel room that had the wall fall.

The driver of the vehicle was the only person injured, but did not need transporting by ambulance. He was arrested by police.

Because of the damage done to power pole, it knocked out the power all the way to Prince Frederick which is about another 5 miles South of the accident. The South bound lane was closed until power pole could be fixed and did not open until around 6:00 am Monday morning."

Damn that's a lot of damage!

That's for sure. Bet he doesn't have enough insurance to cover all of it either. Hubby and I go to that restaurant all the time, glad we weren't there when this idiot came speeding through like a complete maniac. Thank God nobody was walking through the parking lot!

I went by there at 6 am this morning (north bound) and it looked like they still had the south bound side completely blocked and the left lane of the north bound side was blocked. I thought it was road construction.

Anyone have info on the "routine traffic stop", i.e. for what reason were the enforcement officers attempting to stop the vehicle?

I was wondering the same thing. And of course, I'm also wondering if he was drunk or high after looking at those pictures. You'd think taking out that huge Mexico sign would have stopped him. How fast was he going??!!

Wow, he struck the "motel" or whatever it is considered now. I think it's vacant except for one unit, which appears to be occupied (I always see the light and tv on when I park in front of it, although I'm not sure what the deal is with that place). From the pics, it looks as though this jackazz just missed the unit that someone may live in......thank God!
