What in the hell is wrong with the Dept of Transportation for PG county?
I called the State Highway Administration about this mess 2 weeks ago. Seems they are trying to save money and have subcontracted out a job to "streamline" this intersection. The man I talked to said they were aware that there was a problem and that they "were going to the next step" (in dealing with the traffic problems that these jerks are causing) but for the life of him, he couldn't tell me what the next step would be. And as far as I can see, absolutely nothing is being done to fix this mess.
Basically, they've given a contractor a bunch of money, he's started a job and is in no hurry to finish evidently. The signage is even stupid and dangerous -- the road signs don't even match the temporary road lines they've drawn for the new "third" lane, which, by the way, have come up in places - they look to be some kind of plastic - they're not even painted on.) The State personnel responsible for this could not care less because they don't have to sit in the massive jams every day to get to and from their places of work so forcing the contracting company to finish the job and fix the mess it has created isn't a priority. My suggestion: complain, complain, complain. Call the Maryland State Transportation Office 1-888-963-0307. Call your local delegate. Call Steny Hoyer's office. If nobody knows there's a HUGE problem, nothing will be done anytime soon. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. . .

I really appreciate you sharing that useless bit of information with me.LexiGirl75 said:One of the things I learned after moving to Southern MD is that there are only so many ways out. Unless you know the backroads you have to go the way that most go and if construction is along the way, oh well.
Scary thing happened, someone told me about the back road in case Hughesville is backed up and I took it but didnt know where to turn off back to Rt5 South and so I kept straight and ended up in Leonardtown.
It was a nice ride and certainly a short cut in bad traffic but if that is an example of a shortcut out of the south then I will seriously need to purchase a road map (yeah, I dont have one). :tellit2datwinswhoandgivesa:
