I just got off the phone with the vet. Apparently he died of a bloot clot. The one side of his heart muscle was thicker than normal and the clot broke free and got stuck in his aorta and that is why he passed away. The vet said that the heart problem was hereditary. He advised that if I had more than one cat from the litter I should follow up with a pet cardiologist. I feel a lot better knowing that he didn't suffer and he didn't have any pain. I would have never forgiven myself if it was something happened to him that I could have prevented. So even with the routine care he had it couldn't have been prevented. My other cat Alexis hasn't left my side. It just takes time I guess.
Sorry for your loss, Lexi. We have a sick dog, Pepper, who has had heart problems since she got us. It recently has been getting worse, we just out her on a new heart med yesterday, Pimabendan (Vetmedlin). It seems to allready be helping, this is in addition to the Lasix, enalapril, and (2nd diretic that i cannot remember the name of).
I am not surprise that your other cat(s) are sticking very close to you, I am sure they miss Spot-kitty too.
I was just talking to my parents. My dad suggested that I should get another cat in a couple of weeks. Thats really the last thing I want to think about now. I think it's a little to soon to be thinking about getting another cat. I guess he was only trying to make me feel better.
Lexi, do you know where any of his siblings are living? If so you might want to give their owners a heads up on what happened. That way they can get their kitties taken care of. Just a thought. Also I know it's too soon to think about another kitty, but another kitty might make it easier on your kitty who is alone now. I hope you feel better soon. Thank goodness he didn't hurt, he just went to heaven in his sleep.
