I am moving to Charles County in August and will be a teacher at Dr James Craik Elementary School. I was wondering if anyone knew of any safe apartment complexes near there. Thanks

In Charles County? Hmmm, sorry to say, but good luck with that search! I don't know about the surrounding areas, but stay away from Waldorf.

And La Plata. At least the apartments over off Kent Avenue. That used to be called "Little Southeast".

Where the heck is Qurious when you need her?

If you're going to be teaching, why don't you ask the people in Personnel at the Board of Education if they have any leads? Many times they can direct you to teachers looking for roommates or other professionals within the BOE that have rental units. :yay:

Craik is actually in Pomfret, which will put you in equal distance between Waldorf and La Plata. Your best bet is to stay out of Waldorf and look to La Plata. Don't fret; La Plata isn't the ghetto everyone here makes it up to be. La Plata is actually a very nice area.

You can call Housing and Community Development Division at 301-934-0112 or 301-870-8833 ext. 5112. You may or may not qualify for assistance but at least they know the area and can provide some direction.

Sorry, but "safe" and "charles county" don't go together - suffer the commute and try calvert or st. mary's. :coffee: Safe apartments are the ones where owners carry their own guns.

I work in Waldorf, believe me you DO NOT want to move to anywhere near Waldorf. Your best bet would be to find a house for rent or something on Rt. 6 or maybe in Charlotte Hall area. Even Wicomico Shores is good to and you will be close to Waldorf and La Plata but far enough away to where you won't have to worry about parking your car out front. Also, there are alot of houses for Rent on the Baden side of Brandywine, its nice and peaceful over there(thats where I stay during the week). I hope that helps you! If you HAVE to move to Waldorf I will say stay away from Acton Lane, Lancaster, Dorchester, Hampshire, Holly Station, and any of those areas around the mall! DO NOT come to Smallwood Parkway either!

LaPlata has several newer apartments now that rent to alot of new teachers coming into Charles County, check with the Board of Ed. they may be of great help. The apartments along Billingsley Road are quite nice, but might be too much for a new teachers salary.
You will find no apartments in Northern St. Marys.

Not complexes but basements and homes to share etc.

Good advice. La Plata is not bad -- just that you get a lot of traffic up and down 301. The apartments next to the La Plata town hall are new and nice, although I don't know the rates. My cousin is looking in La Plata and she described the older apts. off of St. Mary's avenue as affordable but "a s###-hole". A decent apt./townhouse there will probably run you $1,600+ per month. Good luck!

I had an apartment on St. Mary's Avenue long ago, and now they are described as s###-holes. :bawl:

When I lived there, there was a bunch of nuns from the school living there.
