They were ranked by "accidental injury death rates". They didn't take into consideration the ones that were on purpose.

Well that makes me feel better after reading that headline!

The five highest-ranking states were all found in the northeast:
Vermont (#1)
New Jersey (#2
The District of Columbia (#3)
New York (#4)
Delaware (#5).

The five lowest-ranking states were:
Wyoming (#51)
Alaska (#50)
South Dakota (#49)
West Virginia (#48)
Nebraska (#47)
Interesting, the best places to be a kid are also the most dangerous.

Not to be picky, but DC is not a state.

i guess if they are basing it on accidental deaths i could see those states being higher, with a lot of kids using atvs, and other off road veh.

but i would much rather take a chance and raise my kiddies there than d.c.

Being murdered in a drive by is not considered an accidental death obviously!

Dying of a drug overdose or being beat to death by bebe's daddy is not considered an accidental death either.
