We were flying when the front pushed in... powerful winds had us scrambling to get the kites in. We then took our usual ride down to the Island. They said they were from the sailing club and I had my camera with me.

Ouch!
Thanks for the photos and verification!

Wow, heck of a thing to happen. With as quickly as the front came through, I'm sure they didn't have much chance to get to safety. I'm glad everybody is okay. :yay:

Roger that! Anyone know where this boat is from? Yes the vid is a little fuzzy at times and has Trooper 7 in there too.

That boat is DHS or Customs or US Marshals...or something like that. It's been around for about 2 years that I can recall.

they practice a couple of times a week, and wear wetsuits. The kids sailing the boats all have experience and were sailing in the harbour and only needed to go a few hundred feet to get to a little more sheltered area. Also the dinghies they were sailing capsize all the time, they even practice righting them pretty often. Besides, you can see from the pics that they were only a short distance from the shore in any direction.....

Still, i'm glad no one was hurt. My son sailed with them a couple of seasons, all the kids were standouts in their various schools (Leon, Ryken, Pax) and other than the snooty 'yacht club' feel you got when all the parents were around, a nicer bunch of kids would be hard to find.

I've sailed in these boats enough and have been knocked in the water. It's the nature of the boat. Even with all the safety gear and wetsuits, there are conditions where these boats should stay on the beach!

They had a learning experience. They have probably all been knocked over a time or two, but not all at once like that. They were in a very protected setting and it couldn't have happened under better circumstances. They have learned to respect the weather and will probably check carefully before setting out in situations where it could be very important to know the weather forecast. They also have a good little experience to share.

Just think of the stories they can tell... "Remember that time when we were sailing in solomons harbor, that big wind came along and blew us all over at the same time!" "Man that was fun!!!"
