Satellite Dish Alignment?

Hello. Does anyone know of a reliable company or person who can align 2 Dishes for me? (DirectV and Dish network) I have already mounted them on the roof but they are dual LNB dishes and I can only find one Sat on each not two. I live in Abell MD.

Thanks!!

Don't know about Direct, but Dish has diagnostics in the setup. The dual LNB will only "see" one bird until you ask the diagnostics to run the switch test (assuming you have a switch in line between the dish and the receiver) or you manually ask it to check for the other bird. The way it works is that one bird is almost in line with the other bird, separated by only a few degrees. The switch selects which bird it wants to see.

There is an alignment tool you can get to properly align.

There are also detailed instructions on the Dish website. As far as who else to call, the only one I can think of is J&M in Charlotte Hall.

Thanks for the quick reply GW. I tried the diagnostics but I guess I don't have enough "Skill" to get it right. I tried to Google the J&M in Charlotte Hall but didn't find it, just my luck. :cds:

Do you have a contact number for them? TIA

all you need is a compass and the azmuth and elevation of the sat
For the single LNB, yes. For the dual and Dish 500, you have to canter the dish as well, and it gets tricky. I have a dual/dual LNB and I just couldn't get it right.

I thought it was J&M, but I may be thinking of another company. I couldn't find them either, but I'm pretty sure it was J& something... Didn't pop up in any search I did either. There is also Jedi Communications, but they got some unfavorable comments from forum members. I'll keep poking around....

Maybe contact Dish Network directly and see who is their authorized dealer/installer for this area.

If you've got the monthly maintenance plan they'll do it for free. Personally I think it's worth the $5. In the past year my LNB has been hit by lightning and my HD DVR went bad. All covered under the plan.

I don't know about any of you guys, but when I hear "dual LNB", I think of an LNB with 2 outputs receiving a signal from one bird.

Each portion of the LNB works independent of the other. One can be looking at one bird while the other is looking at a 2nd bird. The outputs from both LNBs feed into a switch which acts as a combiner so the receiver can command the switch and LNB to decode the bird and transponder.

If you have multiple receivers, each can use either portion of a dual LNB to get programming from different birds at the same time.

Its skew not skill ~ google for the skew of that type dish, its degree changes with region. With a multi lnb setup it is a critical setup. Skew is the back of dish rotation.

Thats a "twin LNB".

Same thing. They used to call it a dual LNB, their current install manual calls it a twin. I still use the old terminology as I've had my system for well over 15 years and used to install it all myself.
