Satellite Radio

yeah, I searched all over the site..theres no clear answer. I think I have an inderstanding of the diff receivers and packages now from poking around..but I am wondering now what other people have.. and if it makes an appreciable difference to them..
:howdy: Four years ago I just went to a store found the Sirius radio receiver that I liked. There are about 4 or 5 different models with different looks and features. They come with either a home adapter OR a car adapter. I bought the Sirius receiver with a home adapter and then I bought a separate car adapter w/o the receiver. This way I can simply unplug it from my house adapter and plug it into my car adapter and vice-versa.

Normally you buy the receiver unit first because you need the receivers ID number to activate your subscription.

Sirius and XM have merged but they kept separate accounts so that one group or the other wouldn't have to change out their units. The channel numbers are different but most of the music plans you can buy are the same. Everything you need to know about plans & prices is online at their website: Welcome to the world of satellite radio - SiriusXM Radio

Thats what I was looking for, mostly.

I think I was getting confused because the receiver I was looking at the was the edge..and that radio is the only one that can play siriusxm..the others ones you have to choose..so I wasn't matching up equipment with services correctly.

The lineups are nearly identical, the services are nearly identical, they are the exact same price..so why in the world are they seperate? to confuse me?

Thanks for the help everyone I think I have it figured out.

They are still seperate because they use different frequencies and satellites. Supposedly they will be fully merged within the next 8 years.

No, they're still separate so they can charge you more (the base rate for your Xm and the base rate for your Sirius, rather than one at base and the other reduced). Account management is nothing more than entries in a database and any decent company coming out of a merger would have completed account consolidation in less than a quarter.

I thought about getting satellite radio because 102.9 is the only station that I can get in my van. I went to Best Buy and talked to a friend of mine that works there. He told me that I was crazy. He sold me a $20 cord that connects my cell phone to my CD player. I downloaded Pandora and listen to whatever genre of music I'm in the mood for. Kids Bop Radio has been playing lately. Seems as if the kids' moods determine my mood.:ohwell:

The music stations are ok, but I bought it years ago for Stern and sports. Haven't had a bill in 7 years either.
