NASCAR Say good bye to Kyle Larson

For the second straight week, there is controversy surrounding NASCAR's virtual iRacing platform. On Sunday, NASCAR star Kyle Larson used a racial slur on a Twitch livestream of an iRacing event. He lost communication on his headset with his spotter at one point, and during a microphone check moments later said "You can't hear me?," which was followed by the N-word. Video of the exchange was captured and uploaded to YouTube (Warning: Graphic language.)

Ironic when a recipient of NASCAR's Drive for Diversity intern program and is 1/2 Japanese gets popped for calling his white spotter the N word.

More on the story. Larsen is suspended indefinitely and must complete diversity training before he can be reinstated, so a Drive for Diversity intern graduate has to attend diversity training to drive.

I have my doubts he will find a ride. His contract is up this year with Ganassi and his sponsors are probably going to dump him so he won't be marketable. Too bad because I think he really has talent.

Actually,
Larson must attend sensitivity training as directed by NASCAR.

That's that part I don't get.. It's an offensive word, I get that.. but he's talking to a WHITE guy when he says it.

I don't understand how that can be any more or less offensive than when two black people use it when greeting each other, or when referring to each other.. they claim it's context, and it's a congenial word when used like that.

SO how is this any different? He wasn't referring to, nor talking to a person of color.. nor was he disparaging a person of color.. so how can this be grounds for him losing his job, and possibly millions of dollars?

Imagine if he had some rap music playing in the background and he was just singing along...

Hmmm, you make a valid argument, and I can see both sides of this, but he should have known better and that word just came out too easily and quickly to not be a word that he uses infrequently.

I too have made mistakes and said things that I did not mean and that I fully regret. But thankfully I am not a celebrity and don't rely on my public image to represent billion dollar companies in exchange for sponsorship.

Regardless of the Covid situation, NASCAR is all about image and sponsors. This is more of a business situation than a PC issue. They don't like being seen as racist and they hate losing sponsors. CGR fired Larson because his sponsors said get rid of him or we walk. It is hard enough to field a team with good sponsors but damned near impossible to field one with no sponsors.

Ready for some good conspiracy theories?

According to some NASCAR 'insiders', you might call them internet commenters:p, Larson was in the last year of his contract and was not interested in re-signing with Ganassi, mainly because Ganassi considered Ross Chastain younger and more hungry. Meanwhile, Hendrick Racing operatives had allegedly contacted Larson to see if he had any interest in taking over the #48 and being their senior driver.

Okay, clear on that?

Now, how to keep McDonalds and Credit One as sponsors at Ganassi and not follow Larson to Hendrick? Aha! If Larson were to do something so egregious but mostly forgotten by 2021, because the 2020 season will be half over before racing starts again and Americans forgive and forget rather rapidly, all Larson has to do is complete his sensitivity training and disappear for awhile.

I won't say I believe it, but neither will I say it can't happen.
