Say goodbye to R.F.K. Stadium at the end of January.

Beginning on January 13, the long-anticipated demolition of RFK Stadium is set to begin demolishing as crews mobilize around the former home of the Washington Redskins 63-year-old stadium at the end of the month. So many memories, seen so many Redskins games there and never see them lose a regular season home game. Only one loss at Northwest Stadium in Landover.

I saw Pink Floyd there in the 1994 . Fantastic show! Sad to see it go.
I worked that show, it ranks among the top 2 or 3 shows I've seen since I started going to concerts in the DC/Bmore area in the mid 60s. Saw many Senators/Redskins games at RFK, ton of concerts. Wife's uncle was head electrician at RFK and his wife had a stand I worked at in the late 80s thru the mid 90s (DING! Fwies are Weady)...As for the U2 concert, I didn't know that much about them prior to that concert but that concert made the hair on the back of my neck stand up it was so good and I remember thinking it don't get any better than this. Worst times there were any time the Skins played Philly(Philly fans are the dregs of the earth) and 2 Grateful Dead concerts (dirtball mouthy fans and the biggest wannabe thieves)

I went to lots of concerts back in the day. First was at Cole Field House (Doobie Brothers). I went to Eagles, and Elton John concerts. He was amazing. Literally handstand playing the piano. Shew. Of course, Aerosmith, KISS, Springsteen, Rolling Stones and too many more to name. Good times all. Bonnie Raitt was so good too. but I love her.....lol

Why keep the stadium ?

Skins are in Lnadover
Skins will be leaving Landover within the next 5-10 years. With DC now controlling the land where RFK sat, that is the perfect place for a new stadium. With the name change, DC will be on board for that, tho Virginia may step up with an offer that Harris can't refuse. Even when Snyder was owner, they were counting the days for when they could leave Landover, that stadium is a wreck and has been since day one.

Gotcha ....

I'm sure the land will be sold at a loss as a favor to someone, then DC will lease or buy the land back as a favor to someone else

fleecing the tax payers

Our dad used to take us to RFK to watch the Senators in the late 60's, we always tried to sit in a white painted seat where Frank Howard had hit home runs.

no, no, no you silly people.... you see, we NEED more tennis courts, green spaces, kite flying fields of greenery, snazzy coffee shops like a Currier & Ives scene, and a ..... ummmm... a Trolly like Vincent GRay had that ran like 4 blocks...

Steny Hoyer envisioned something like that at Silver Hill & Suitland Roads... Homer Ave, Huron, drug infested crackheads are enjoying every aspect of that except it hasnt been built yet.

and besides, "Redskins" is offensive
"Commanders" implies that somebody is better and in Command of others!

while we're at it, how many green hair trans chinese are in the NFL? Isnt that a DEI civil liability?

I lived in Alexandria in the Redskins heyday. A big house and all the roommates were friends with the GOATS. I never met the players, but that was when the HOGS were everything. I worked at 14th and L at an Insurance brokerage. So many great memories.
