Scallops

Saute' in a little olive oil and garlic. Keep them simple, don't overpower the flavor with too much stuff.

My favorite is to wrap them in bacon and broil in butter (sorry...), nothing more. but I don't like using the sea scallops. I'm spoiled and will only do this if I can find fresh bay scallops. The ones you get in the store are frozen farm raised from China (awful).

I had some a week ago at a restaurant up in Kittery, Maine that were the best I've ever eaten. They were simply broiled in butter (along with some haddock and shrimp..) . So tender that they literally "melted" in your mouth.

Marinate them in lime juice, olive oil and cilantro, then grill them.

Alternately you can pan sear them.

Use the same recipe, love them this way. have also followed the same steps, and just as you pull them out a dab of your favorite BBQ sauce on them, just a dab. Also just broiled in butter and garlic. Can do the same on the grill.

Thanks, I found one similar, but its supposed to be healthier than wrapped in bacon, instead, wrap them in proscuitto. Going to try it tonite, I'll let you know how they are.

We go up to Maine every summer, and there's nothing like the seafood you get up there. Our next trip in August can't come soon enough! Thanks for making me hungry!

I was so excited about the meal Gilligan enjoyed in Maine that I forgot to mention my favorite method of preparing scallops!

Get a frying pan nice and hot, add some vegetable oil (just enough to lightly coat), salt and pepper the Scallops and place in the frying pan. Use large scallops and turn after 45 seconds on each side. A good sear on both sides is vital to locking in the flavor. Cook until just done all the way through (about 5 minutes total turning every 30 to 45 seconds after both sides are seared). I do like to melt a little butter to dip them but it's really not necessary if you're trying to save a some fat calories.

I've always wanted to go to Maine. My parents went years ago and loved it. I think it was someplace called Baileys Island. They went to a clambake(is that the right term?) and loved it, said the seafood was incredible. They
had lobsters sent back to my sisters and I and they soooo gooood!! My daughter had to go a fews years back for her job, she said the same thing, seafood was incredible

It's just about a 10 hour drive to Southern Maine from SOMD and then a few hours more to get to Down East Maine. The drive along route 1 is beautiful all the way up to Bar Harbor, Maine if you have the extra time and want to enjoy the scenary. A stop in Boothbay, and campden is a must if you go this route. Portland, Maine is also a very pretty city to visit. The old port section is quaint and picturesque and if you have the time to get to some of the islands off the coast of Portland you'll be able to enjoy some very post card like experiences. The Casco Bay Ferry system will get you to the right places. I think you can drive to Baily Island. I would live there if there were jobs and it was affordable. Our week in Maine is the best vacation we take every year hands down.

The scallops were delicious. Wrapped them with proscuitto, sprinkled liberally with coarse ground black pepper, some kosher salt and just a touch of ground red pepper. Cooked in preheated skillet with olive oil and garlic. Hubby loved them. The proscuitto got nice and crisp and added such a good flavor.

Did you mean Camden?

I remember vacationing at my aunt's house back when I was a young teen and her trying to figure out what to make for dinner and asking me, "Do you like scallops?" And I said, "Love them!" only to find out later that she did NOT mean scalloped potatoes and really meant yucky sea creatures...:bawl: :barf:
