Just pulled up the school calendar for this year so I can see when the boys will be home with me. They have 2 "Virtual Instruction" days.

WTH?

I assume they will be home those days, but "in school" on the computers?

I don't know about other districts, but SMCPS started at the end of last school year making early dismissal days virtual days. Some teachers sent home worksheet packets instead of assigning computer work. They were things like going outside on a scavenger hunt and writing about what you found, or using certain foods to create a new recipe.

They had this, this past year. And it's as mentioned, previously scheduled as early dismissal and I presume they had some of the latitude due to zero snow days. They WERE able to dismiss for the year a few days early.

I'm fine with that. When I was in school, early dismissal meant, end of day classes were cut off - in my kid's classes - they compress them so they get all of their classes, just less time - a third less - which to me is about as good as virtual (meaning, not much).

Those half-days that were switched to "Virtual Days" were NOT a success for LHS, can't imagine it was much different for the other HS's. Almost no one bothered with the work sent home and teachers were (rightfully) very frustrated with the kids.

Daycare had to help with some of their older elementary age kids with one of their virtual days. She showed me their log-in schedule (times for classes, etc.) Half the teachers were out/away/in meetings so the kids were expected to log in to other classes for accountability and such? The schedule looked like swiss cheese. If this BS is still ongoing by the time my little one is in elementary school, my attitude toward Virtual days when they look like that will be to just take the absence/loss.
