Sounds like you've got a good childcare provider. If she's really good, she can keep your daughter from getting bored. Your daughter's just as likely to be bored going to school because they will have to go over all that stuff again to see where everyone is and to bring other kids up to speed.

I feel my daycare provider does a great job at keeping her busy. It will just be in school my dd may run into issues.......She really likes to be a busy little bee all of the time. Loves doing homework (or at least she says she is doing by writing her name as well as the alphabet and #s) as well as lots of crafts. I am just hoping she will not be advanced to the point she is super bored and bugging the teacher all time....

Not dead yet.
One plausible reason that the ages are being moved back a bit is to accommodate schools that can't keep up with the number of kids they have already. As for maturity, eh, they'll grow up eventually.

In MY day the kids were pushed in pretty young, I didn't turn 18 until a few weeks AFTER I graduated. By today's schedule, that would be almost a full year ahead of the program.

Look on the bright side, your little missy may be bored, but she may also just get advanced a grade in another year or so. Whatever will be will be. Keep up the good work schooling her at home, though, because every bit helps!

I have a little one that just turned 4 last weekend too, and she won't start pre-K in Calvert until next fall, so I can empathize.

I just see the school system getting way too complicated these days. I'm not all that old and I can remember not much being expected of us in kindergarden.

My concern for Noah is that he'll be a problem child because he'll be so far ahead of the game. He's not even 3 and already knows as much as some kindergardeners. The poor kid has my genes and will seek out fun when he's bored.

:yeahthat: My dd will find something to do if she is bored and I know that will drive the teacher crazy!!!!!!!

Kindergarten has completely changed over the last few years. They have to take any child of the appropriate age and that includes the smart ones and the ones who've never seen a book before, but by the end of Kindergarten a child is expected to know all their letters, upper and lowercase and all their letter sounds. Be able to read simple books and understand their content. Be able to identify between 20 and 100 words on sight. Be able to write their first and last name correctly and be able to write phonetically any other words. They need to be able to count to 20 and to count to 100 by 10s. They need to be able to add any pair of numbers whose result is 10 or less. (meaning they can add on their fingers) They are also expected to recognize on a clock the hour, half hour and quarter hours. They are expected to be able to identify pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and know how much each is worth.

When I was in kindergarten, we learned our colors, shapes, letters and to write our first names. We learned to tie shoes, button buttons and buckle buckles. We learned our addresses and phone numbers and how to dial the phone and how to properly answer it. We learned to listen, pay attention, follow rules and take turns. They still do some of that, but they are so wrapped up in other things, they skip over some of the basics.

There will be other children like her in her class. The teacher is required to accomodate that and keep her from getting bored. Of course, some teachers are better at it than others. If nothing else, she could develop her social interactions by helping other students.

You ain't that old (in MY day, indeed ) They only just changed the cut-off last year after about 300 years of it being Dec 31st. MOST kids graduating now don't turn 18 until after they graduate.

:yeahthat: Exactly. My 4th grader has a composite score in the 99th precentile on the national average. She knew her times tables thru the 9s in 2nd grade (because she was constantly exposed to us drilling our 'late year baby') and has always been advanced. She always stays busy by helping out the teacher or other students. She also gets advanced work. She is doing find and it is actually much less stressful that she is always ahead of tasks.

I think I may have just discovered what's wrong with me. :jet:

My birthday is in December. I started school the September before I turned 5 and I did not go to kindergarten.

Actually 50-50 or so. Those born before May graduations are 18 when the graduate.

The hen list appears to be subjective. WHO do you think the hens are?
If I were to make an educated guess... it would be those with 'hen' avs(jazz, catt, and sharon even though her hen is a duck)....... plus Christy, Vrai and Elaine...:yay:

Actually, since graduation is slightly before the middle of the year, around the first week in June, on average 57% of students turn 18 after that. Hence, "MOST" of them.

Ok, I'm done with my Ken King moment.
