What are you basing your information on?
Maybe things have changed in the past few years but I know a few people that home school their kids and the kids are way behind where they need to be. For instance, one of them is an 8 year old girl that has not gone past Cat In The Hat type books. She can not do her X's tables yet. :shrug:

I can chime in here on the homeschooling thing.

I am NOT someone that homeschools my child, BUT I do know alot about it. I have quite a few friends that homeschool. 2 of my friends children who are in High School (least high school age) are taking college classes and excelling. I know that in the grade school level, they have been tested and are above the grade level what they are expected to be.

Not sure if the homeschooling is working out because they have a really good homeschool support system in my county. But it seems to work for them.

As for the whole "oh they don't have other child/teenager interaction." BS! They are allowed to participate in HS sports and organizations, the younger ones are also in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Ballet, Baseball, Soccer, and etc.

Opps..

As for who grades the children, the county is very strict about the parents keeping ALL the childrens school work. The homeschool kids have to be tested buy the county school board regularly.

I guess it could be a good thing if the parents are teaching them correctly and are letting them participate in social activities. Guess I've just seen negative examples of this. :shrug:

I was very surprised to see how many people homeschool here. I can't believe it. My GF heads up some homeschooling group and they do all sorts of activities and stuff. Then again she has a teachers certificate and isn't one of those mom's that barely passed the 5th grade. :lol:

I have M#1 in public school right now and so far LOVE IT! She hasn't had one problem yet. So that's a good thing about Flagler County (even though I constantly ##### about this place.) I figure I'll learn to appreciate PC sooner or later. :yay:

I've heard great things about the public schools here. I've heard awesome things about Mother Seton or whatever it is called. If I was staying, I'd be looking into that school.

public or private

I agree one does not need to go to a private school to given a great opportunity. I have a few relatives that went to public school and came out on top of there class. They also got a full ride to college without applying for student loans . Private education is always more expensive and considered a better education but I think it's all the same as long as you work hard to get the best grades.

I think it really depends on what your child needs. Private schools offer more one on one, vs. public school and this is mainly due to class size. Most public schools are overcrowded. Discipline also seems to be an issue more in public vs. private school as well. Private schools do have problems/issues as well, but issues seems to be handled more easily in private as most private schools are strict and don't tolerate troubled kids as they do in public.

and to whoever was too chicken to sign the bad karma. Like I said, Im 20, I can talk about the schools here, I haven't been out of them long, and yeah...good public school and St Marys don't go together in the same sentence unless saying "there are no (past elem.) in front of the rest, sorry. I don't care if you believe what is told to you (like that there is no weed on a regular basis, only when someone is expelled, or that are no knives, or guns in Great Mills...HA. how naive!), and you have in your nice little world, but meet the real one and you know...find out real info.
