Schools seem to be of poor quality

So My wife and I are looking for a new place to live. I got a high paying job in D.C. (over 100K). I'm looking at Waldorf, White Plains and LaPlata. I like white plains, but the school its zoned in has pretty poor test ratings. As a matter of fact there is no single zonned area that has a good elem, middle and high school. The only good schools I could find are

William B Wade -elem
Dr. James Craik -elem

No good middle schools

North Point High School - high

These are also in different districts?????

I was also reading the Charles County Public schools rank 18 out of 24??????

In My Opinion
You have better options if you are working in DC.
Check AA county and Montgomery counties. Avoid PG at all cost, send them to PG and all they will learn is how to toke, shoot and work through the welfare red tape.

And you might look in Northern VA, then you will be out of the socialist mexican state of Maryland

Montgomery county, howard county, Rockville, gathersburg area, anne arundel county

Montgomer county, like the Potomac area schools, Ive heard the bathrooms have marble walls and floors and 24ct gold faucets. They even have a bidet that can be most useful when picking on the smaller kids.

If you are making decent money and want good school districts, you're probably looking in the wrong spots. But out of those three, my guess is La Plata may be your best bet for schools. Waldorf is probably the worst.

i was in the same bout several years ago - agonizing over the schools in waldorf area - i am in white plains but districted for diggs / used to be jc parks. I can say from experience that the school has exceeded my expectations. there are great teachers and families there. some of the families that came from jc parks said they were happy there as well - even though after looking at ratings i did not want my child there just based on that. However, after hearing from real families, i think it would have been fine. NOW i will say - i am still nervous about middle schools in the area. I think there's a huge difference in elementary and middle so i'm not sure how that's going to pan out when the time comes. La Plata may be better for middle.

and just a side note - most of the parents in the area are the same- very high paying jobs and work in dc/nova - that is the norm here. so you will find you have similar interests in your childs education as many others attending the school.

Boy went to Milton Somers and now LaPlata HS - he had zero problems in middle school and LaPlata HS seems to be the same for him so far. We could not be happier with these two schools.

I'd like to know what ranking you are using becuase Charles has some of the best schools in the state according to the last rankings I saw......not to say it doesn't have it's bad ones but over all not bad.:coffee:

Not looking for a 500K house. Yes, I know 100K is not much in the DC area.

Average combined MSA Verbal and Math.

I only look at schools that score 4 or better, anything below is not good in my eyes.

Northern St. Mary's is nice too. Better schools than Charles. Commuter bus stop in Charlotte Hall will take you to DC cheaply and conviently. No way would I move to where you are talking about if you have young kids. Schools that may be fine now may be trash by the time your kids get to them if they are young enough. If you are set on Charles, move as far south as you can. There is also a commuter bus stop in LaPlata, so you can look further south down 301 if the bus is an option for you.
