Well, I only see the obvious replies post so far(avoid Great Mills blah blah blah)...

Honestly, Would I send my children to GM? Yes. Do you wanna know why?because if you teach your kids right they will not fall in with the wrong crowd so all of the drama and fighting that occurs at all of the schools in this area would not be an issue. I graduated from Great Mills and I will be the first to admit that its not the greatest but neither are any of the others Leonardtown,Ryken, or Chopticon. A majority of my graduating class did go on to college or join the military. It all boils down to the character of your children either they are going to settle down and do their work, join clubs, play sports(you know all the things that you are supposed to do in high school) or they are gonna go wild --- and they can go wild in any school.

Middle schools - I went to Spring Ridge Would I send my kids there probably not--too much drama ...I don't like the way the staff does things

As far as Elem. Schools you mentioned Park Hall ...I live right beside it and I went there a few years --its ok. My mom works at White Marsh(in mechanicsville/charlotte hall) she seems to like the way they do things much better than her old school Carver.

Really I wouldn't want to send my kids to any school in this county--my suggestion-- Move close to Waldorf and send you kids to those schools(I know u work in St. Inigoes and thats a long commute my dad works in st Inigoes thats why we live in Park Hall) --really I mean that.

Sorry, but I went to Great Mills and Leonardtown and the schools are like night and day. Leonardtown if far from Good but compared to Great Mills it was perfect. I was a good kid and I HATED Great Mills. I was scared I could get caught in the crossfire of all the fights etc. etc. This is why I would never put my child in Great Mills!!!!!!

I, personally, would live in Calvert. But St. Mary's has nice parts, too - just not Lexington Park. Maybe in the Hollywood and California areas, and Leonardtown.

Lexington Park is a nice place to live. There's just more black and brown people there.

I graduated from Great Mills and attended both Esperanza and Spring Ridge. Honestly, I had a good experience at Great Mills. Great Mills is by far the most diverse school in the county. Like any school it has its share of problems. Many of its students like myself (class of '03) go on to college. Many of their school programs are sufficient. And most of the sports teams tend to do well.

It has always been diverse. I had no problem adjusting to GM, and matter of fact I loved going to school, its hard for alot of people to say that. I was engaged in sports all 4 years and played on a mens sports team all 4 years. The school has some very good teachers. But they have very poor teachers as well. But this can be said for any school.

The one positive that has come out of GM is the new principal that is going to be there this fall. I am actually expected to see alot of things change. I went to GM (Class of 98) and had no issues going to college, and graduating. I count on a few of the classes such as Physics, AP classes, and Calc and Trig to help me become who I was. Those teachers are top notch no doubt in my mind!

I would have to say, and I think Baswm would be with me on this, the BEST elementary school in Calvert is St. Leonard Elementary, I just can not rave enough about the school, the staff and the students. The school districting in Calvert is tricky though almost like someone followed a stray dog to make the boundaries, but if you have any choice I would DEFINATELY look into St. Leonard Elementary.

:yay: My child goes to St. Leonard also. I am in agreement. The teachers and the Principal there are great. If your child is having trouble they take the time to help. The staff gets the kids involved. My child wants to go to school even when he's sick.
