Scotty Needs A Home

Hi, my name is Scotty and I'm looking for a foster home. I'm a one year old male Sheltie mix. I weigh around 20lbs and I'm crate trained. Since I'm still in the puppy stage, I have lots of energy. I would love to go on walks, play at the off leash park or go jogging with you. If you like a playful personality, you'll LOVE me! I have all my shots and SMAWL will pay for my food and vet bills and, of course, find me a new home. We rescue animals know how important foster families are because they are the vital bridge between our old life and the new one. If you might be interested in helping me out, please contact Sandy at slbjgb2@verizon.net or Mary at dmratcliff@md.metrocast.net.

When you foster a dog, do you have to fill out the three page horrid questionnaire? I was so turned off by that application that I adopted from another agency.

We hate paperwork too, believe me, and we'd rather spend our time and energy working with the animals, but as a registered charity we have to have records and documentation. Most people don't find the forms too bad and we'd be glad to help you any way we can.

I just found it invasive and lengthy.

They would not allow us to have a dog because they said that we were mean because we said we would put the dog on a lead at times. So we went some place else also, for the last 2 yrs our yellow lab has slept most nights on the bed with us, some nights she gets too hot and will get down. She is part of the family and so spoiled. She has health problems, seizures so we had to get her to a vet and get meds, which we did right away as well as all her shots ( she was 2 when we got her and had not been kept up with all that ) Had her spayed. So this free dog cost us about $600.00 in the first two weeks to get her right. The only time she is on a lead is when the weather is good and we are not at home. She loves to be outside on nice days, not couped up in the house. She has a dog house and the lead runs up to the underneath of the deck, covered. When we are home she runs around the yard following my hubby or son. On bad weather days she is inside ( not in a carte ( like they told us to do ) and we go home at lunch time to let her out for a few minutes. So she is never left longer than about 5 hours or less. Oh they did not tell us about the seizures when we got her, I think that might be why they got rid of her, but we loved her any way when it saw it and did not dump her else where, we took her to the vet right away....But we are MEAN people. I was never so hurt when they said that to us.

God forbid you have a cat that is an inside/outside cat. REJECTED.

Scotty was pulled from TCAS where his time was running out. It would have been a shame to lose him. He's a wonderful dog and will make someone a terrific companion. Fostering is fun and rewarding!

This is an 85lb yellow lab that is right now at home on the bed sleeping. And yes I have 2 Cats.

The up side to this is that if they hadn't done that, you wouldn't have gone elsewhere and you wouldn't have that sweet dog on your bed right now! Hugs for not giving up!:huggy:

I cannot imagine his time soon to be up, how could someone not want him, he looks lovely!

Thank you. I love my yellow girl, I call her that some times. She and my son are best friends. It's funny to see them play together, she plays like a cat sometimes rolling around on the floor pawing at things/him. She also likes to run around the house with her toys in her mouth. Ask her "wheres your toy" and off she goes. And if you ask her to bring you her bowl she will. If she eats all her food during the night we will find her empty bowl in our bedroom on the floor. She wants a refill!!! LOL!!

Many wonderful dogs are lost every month because we and other rescues are short on space and need fosters. There's a furever home out there for every animal but time is often our biggest enemy. Every new foster home means we can give another animal a chance at life. It's so wonderful to hear from the families of former foster animals on birthdays and at Christmas and to get a chance to see how they're doing. I couldn't begin to describe the feeling. It just doesn't get any better! :)

If I did not work during the day and had a fenced in yard I would love to take care of pets. We live on 20acres and very far away from any main roads, but I would feel better with a fence around the yard ( some dogs don't come when you call them ). My yellow girl is really good about coming when we call her and we never leave her alone unless she is on the lead. She has plenty of room on the lead/dog house/fresh water/we put an old sleeping bag in the dog house for the winter months. But we never leave her out there when it is cold (she is inside on days like today) She loves the outside but its just too cold today. I would like to build a kennel one day and do foster care, but too many folks think it is wrong for my dog to be on a lead for any amount of time and might not allow me to foster dogs.
