As one who provides tech support both professionally and personally, I feel your pain. But I understand that not everyone is computer competent, or even literate. Makes for some fun stories when I magically "fix" their problem by telling them to turn off their capslock.

However, you must admit that NMCI is an inefficient system, which is the topic here (not random tech support). I've run into dozens of know-it-all "tech dudes" who come up with these convoluted "solutions" to fairly routine and simple problems. It just seems to come with the territory - computer/networking genius combined with Rube Goldberg thinking.

NMCI is the product of such people.

And I've overheard these people talking about the users of their system. Pretty nasty stuff. Apparently they don't think very highly of people who don't share their interest and/or knowlege of IT.
And I'd like to address this further:

If everyone could do their own computer/network/internet support, many of us would be out of a job.

My hairdresser doesn't say, "That stupid Vrai! She comes in for the dumbest things! Why can't that idiot do her own hair???" She says, "Let me fix you..." and thanks me kindly for keeping her employed.

So I don't get aggravated when my customers call me with some routine problem - I straighten them out and appreciate them keeping me in business. I think some of you "support professional" should get a clue.

Sorry Vrai, I had to google Rube Goldberg. I agree wholeheartedly that it's a far from perfect system. And, any time you have a position that requires a little computer knowledge and a VERY thick skin, you will end up with some "dudes". I was just venting, because people are shooting the messenger when it comes to NMCI. I do everything in my power to make the customer happy, but I can't bend the rules and keep my job. I'm just trying to make a living, but a plus is, I get to meet new people and help them.

I guess I'm trying to be a part of the solution, man. :flowers:

Dang you are good! What an analogy. You get a gold star today!

I worked for NMCI a couple months ago and the illegal things that go on with EDS is crazy how they get away with it. I was told on a daily basis by head EDS people including site manager Jane Tyson to pretty much lie and say we called the customer so that the clock would stop for SLA's and we could pend it customer response. I cant believe no govt person is looking into that since technically they are stealing money from the govt because they should be getting paid sor not missing SLA's when we are lying about trying to call the customer and saying they didnt call us back

The other day I saw a sticker on a truck that had the fake-Calvin peeing on "NMCI." If the driver of the truck was in the military, would his or her superior officer be required by regulations to treat the sticker as insubordination, even if the superior officer agreed 100% with the sticker's sentiments? How does the military discpline service members who, for instance, leak to the media?
