All,

My daughter is having an issue with her 2000 Volkswagon Jetta VR6. Please PLEASE PLEASE.....don't blast me about it being a Volkswagon. I know I made a mistake by buying it and have learned my lesson!

I am looking fro a "GOOD" Mechanic. one that might actually be able to fix the problems the first time!! I have had it in the shop several times for the same things and I need to get it fixed.

Does anyone have any recommendations in the Lexington Park area?

Don't know anyone in Lexington Park, but I've always used Bill's Foreign Auto (301) 843-9073 in Waldorf (located in St. Charles, 35 Henry Ford Circle # B near the emissions testing center). I found him when I had bought a BMW several years ago and continue to use him for my Audi today. Great guy and he really knows his stuff when it comes to the German cars.:yay:

Might help if you tell us what is wrong with it that several visits can't fix.

Hate VW!!!

Back when we had our VW Passat, I called everyone from Scottland, MD to Charlotte Hall - no one would touch a VW. There is a computer system that is specific to VW, called VAG-COM, that very few shops have except the dealer. You can take it anywhere you want and they can replace parts (sometimes) but I doubt the mech will be able to read or reset the codes.

The best explaination of VW I ever heard is that they are an excellent marketing company but a horrible car manufacturer. They make their cars very appealing but...

well, you know the rest - that's why you're looking for a mechanic.

Good luck - I would suggest unloading it on some unsuspecting puke as soon as it is fixed.

I think one of the reasons is the US accounts for a small market for them. I'm sure most of their cars and their research goes into their diesel cars that are used everywhere but in this country.

Gasoline engines with the US' EPA requirements kind of handicap European companies that primarily manufacture diesel cars that haven't even been allowed to be sold here the last few year because of NEW additional rules concerning diesels.

There are a few companies that stop selling in this country every time the EPA changes their rules, most try to keep up, but try to go to any lot and find a car from the last 3 or 4 model years with a diesel engine. Near impossible.

I have a 2001 and every problem I have ever had I was able to either do myself or have a fellow VW friend help me with (and never buy parts from the stealership). If the CEL light is on get the codes read for free first, just as a starting point. I have had a wide range of problems when I first got the car due to the previous owner not properly maintaining it, and some of them actually turned out to be very easy fixes. I would check out VWvortex.com for all sorts of fix-it guides and etc. You could also join the local VW car club (we have a forum) I'm apart of DownSouthDubs, those guys are great and offer a lot of advice and as well know the BEST places to get work done on a VW if you can't do the work yourself. Do you mind sharing what problems you are having with it?
