I'd love to find old pictures of Waldorf. I've seen some that are framed in Bob Evans which they said were aquired from Annapolis I believe. Anyone know of any that are online anywhere?

Thanks,

Gazoo,

I am at loss re your question. I presume you want pictures of Waldorf in its salad days, when slots were rampant. My only suggestion is the local newpaper files. Prior to WW II Waldorf was just a crossroads with a couple of stores.

Try going to antique shops in Charles County. If you get a chance to go to a "DC Big Flea" in Chantilly at the Dulles Expo center, I KNOW you can find old photos and postcards from Waldorf and the surrounding area. The last time I went to one I found photos from the old Hotel that was at Pt. Lookout. (where the fishing pier is now)

Ebay. I found one of the old Curley's bowling alley/bar on there.

The now-closed Chesapeake Bagel Bakery in Waldorf also had some old photos of Waldorf. No idea where they might have gone to. One that was especially intriguing showed the Rte 301/5/228 intersection. Simply a concrete pillar in the center of the intersection with a Stop sign on it. How times have changed!

Here are a couple of photos of the Waldorf train station. It was situated south of Route 5, approximately on the site behind where the Food Lion on Old Washington Road now sits.

Note that almost 40 years ago this was still utilized, many cars of pulpwood were loaded and shipped out of the Waldorf station. (Probably came from the land cleared for St. Charles.)
