I didn't fill out the paperwork, but who the "F" decides?

I am curious now, think they would accept me as one of their pet adopters?
I think you would qualify if you want to go through with the application and supply 3 references, your groomers name and vet references. Plus your home owners policy and HOA by-laws.
I did not fill out the application, I had asked a volunteer and was told because her maltese was not fixed we didn't qualify. Also at the time she was home from college for the summer and we have big dogs. Under the guidelines they also don't adopt small dogs to home with big dogs.

of course, you will

because you obviously care, and want her.

I saw my pup on the "pet of the week", knew he would be at an "event", and could not stop thinking about him,... so I went. The second I laid eyes on him the tears would not stop.....I knew he was mine....

Within a few days of filling out the application I got a call, arranged for my "inspection" and waited for a week to hear from them. I KNEW he was mine (and I had been waiting for the ONE for a long time).

Now when I think about it, I wouldn't have wanted them to do any less for him.

Completely F'in ridiculous.

I wonder what would happen if I offered to volunteer as a foster parent?

that's EXACTLY what I thought

Inspect my home?
F' them.

the first time. But I wanted her! I didn't care about "them"
I cared about her.

If you can provide the home she needs "they" will be thrilled.

I already know "they'll" love you.

Actually Calvert County Humane Society and K9 Lifesavers both came to check out my house. I am unsure of what they are looking for when they come, but they only looked in the room they were in when they walked in the door. Maybe they are looking to be sure we didnt have dogs chained to trees, or hundreds of dogs? Dont know but it was about 10 minutes of standing and talking and we got both of our dogs from each place. We had to supply our vet info for both as well which wasnt a big deal for us either. Second hope told us no because we were looking at a big dog and we had a small child and then told us no on a small dog because we had a small child. :roflmao:

I praise them for what they do, they are saviors for the animals and they do seem to take in animals that would normally be put down. I guess they are particular with their questions because too many people make decisions to get animals and then easily dispose of them. Kudos for you wanting to adopt and I am sure if you dont get this pup, your perfect match is out there somewhere.

Amen to that.. These people aren't affiliated with the government, probably aren't bonded and insured.. and probably have less stringent requirements to hire help than they do for you to adopt.

NO WAY in hell I would let one of those looney tunes have that much information about me and my family, and even less chance that I would have ANY of them come to my house.

Nice that people get so friggin frustrated that they give up on the process and either don't bother, or don't qualify.

Sorry, but finding 100 reasons for someone NOT to adopt is NOT in the best interest of ANY animal.. I can KIND of understand it if it was a Horse, or even an Elephant.. but a DOG?

Get real.. I think they are way to important and think waaay too much of themselves to care about the animals at all.. Give a screw-wad a little power..

I don't really see what the big deal is. They're the ones who have the dogs, so if you want them, you need to apply. All the home visit is for is to make sure you have a decent house and can provide a good home for the dog. I've adopted through SMAWL, TriCounty, and Second Hope and didn't have any issues.

Do you blame them for wanting to check vet references? Why would they want to adopt a dog out to someone who never has his/her pets vaccinated? And do you know how often people lie about their circumstances? I don't blame them for wanting to do a quick home check. If you're a good home and want that particular dog, you wouldn't mind.

I do not want to get into a pissing match with you but, what is your definition of a decent house? Does it depend upon decor or their financial stability
Would being kept in a kennel or a crate outside in the elments qualify as a satisfactory home? How often are the rescues not in foster homes socialized? I know of rescues that house dogs that way and to me it would have just been better to be put down vs living in a kennel for the rest of it's rescued life.
Vet references I could understand, but then again what about those of us that have done research and have learned that many of the vacinations are comprising their immune systems. Are their allowances for that?
It just seems to me that with the rescues so full and so many animals in need of a home that some restrictions would be lightened up a bit. Example DC area shelters & rescues hold a free adoption weekend and such.

I have no beef with rescues and they actually do a good and thankless job but sometimes I think they get so emotionally involved with the pet that they make the requirements a little too stringent.

Interestingly..a rescue would turn down an adopter if the dog were to be kept in a kennel most of the time.

These things are all up to the discretion of the adoption group. That's why it's important to look around at different groups. I remember when we were looking for a second dog, I found a group that wanted our DL #s. I thought that was absolutely ridiculous, so I went elsewhere.

I've also kind-of been looking for a livestock guardian dog (which have to live outside with the livestock to do the job they were bred to do) and I've found that many groups with LGD breeds (like Great Pyrs) won't adopt to people who keep them outside. I obviously wouldn't waste my time with groups like that, because if they think it's unacceptable for a dog to do what it was bred to do, I don't want to adopt from them.

I think it's childish to slam an adoption group because you don't agree with their application process. Why not just go elsewhere?

BadGirl

I am so very blessed
It's a DOG!!

I think anything would be better than it's current predicament, and definitely better than getting the needle.

Since we've had numerous inquires as to Chole's eventual size, we think she'll be a big girl. She has big paws to grow in to.

Am I still eligible to adopt if I fill out the paperwork and answer all the questions?

Would any of you like to be a reference for me?
I need 3.
Thanks.

So you're going to go ahead and try to get her?

I say "try to" because no matter how good of a doggy daddy you may be, they'll want to take forever to process your application. I say we dress in black and make a midnight commando raid to kidnap Chloe and free her from her oppressors.

Reminds me of a couple of other covert operations.
