Secret Service failure - someone explain this to me

They're blaming Cheatle, and god knows she deserves it, but giving the agents themselves a pass.

Why?

The agents were the ones that actively dropped the ball, not the director who wasn't even onsite. The agents knew there was a shooter on the roof, yet they did nothing.

Can someone please tell me how that makes them courageous and professional and all these other accolades they're receiving? Because in my mind at best they are woefully incompetent, at worst they were part of a plot to assassinate a former POTUS. Not sure why everyone - including Eric Trump just minutes ago - is singing their praises.

Where is my thinking wrong on this?

At the very very minimum, the agent in charge of the event didn’t perform a sufficient security plan. Not certain about those under him, but his head needs to be on the block as well as affirmative action hire at the top.

I think that the praise for those "close protectors" comes from that as soon as Trump went down that team did as they should - create a shield around the protectee with their bodies and then move him to a more safe environment . As to the rest of the "rally detail", that is where, in my mind, the ball was dropped. As of yet I have seen nothing indicating that the "close protectors" were aware of what others on the detail knew or they surely would have advised Trump to hold off while things get resolved.

Maybe they were following orders.

Just saying.
And 10 years ago I would never entertained an idea like that, but since half the nation has shrunken brains with an overgrown TDS tumor, I don’t put it past them anymore.

One of my favorite TV shows had a B story where two men who hated each other were trapped in an elevator - and there was a fire outside the doors. When one suggested to climb through the roof and escape - the other refused.

When told but you’ll die too he answered that’s what makes this so perfect - I don’t have to do anything - and I still get to watch you die.

I think if they hated Trump enough, they were content with doing nothing.

Would you follow an order like that? "Shooter on the roof but don't bother him until he has a chance to fire"?

Also I was unimpressed by the response from the "close protectors". We've all seen the vid of that tiny little girl ducking *below* Trump's head line. Not to mention that other chick with her Barney Fife in a panic imitation.

I used to tell some pretty good stories when my brother and sisters were kids and the dog pooped indoors. The rule was, whoever sees it FIRST is obligated to clean it up.

We were kids. What do YOU think typically happened?

Yep. NOBODY saw it. It could be in the middle of the family room and “no one” saw it.

I think it’s completely possible some greenhorn SS decided that if they didn’t see it, Trump would get shot and their problem would be solved.

It just seems more likely than MASSIVE, SYSTEMIC incompetence.

Sounds like a problem they have in the White House.

See, it IS the same argument as J6. That Trump instigated it. No evidence. But they impeached him over it, and he faces another trial connected to that assumption.

I know what she was doing, protecting the internal organs. However, the most important was uncovered, the brain/head.

Needs improvement, but they're not used to a candidate that fights back by instinct.

Where everyone screwed up was not approaching Crook when he was first observed acting in a suspicious manner. Had they just approached him and engaged him in conversation, questioning his actions and purpose for those actions he may have aborted his operation. They would also have gained his information and been able to do a background on him for future reference.

Pretty sure they we not Secret Service agents. Their clothes said "POLICE" on them. Secret Service agents by definition are not police.

More likely the Secret Service engaged the services of the local police.

That could explain a lot, like the obvious lack of communication. Not all agencies use the same radio frequencies.

You would think that protecting the next president from harm, they would have a common frequency they all monitored. I still believe some of these "protectors" were complacent, if not down right conspiring, to have Trump removed from the race.
