That is no different than anyone else in any retail business. If customers need served, you stay till all is done. It the store needs to be re-set for a special sale, you stay until its done.. Only Government workers can drop what there doing and walk out at 5pm on the dot.

Yeah Ain't that the truth ..... rules being what they are, some managers get pissed if your still "working" past your alloted time ...... since all comp / OT has to be approved / documented ........... Gov Business, it will, get done tomorrow

as someone who's looking at going into an IT position (sort of) in the next few years, how easy/difficult is it to put limits in your contract with regards to hours worked?

I probably wouldn't ask anything like that. It shows a lack of dedication to the company. From an employers standpoint, if you aren't willing to do it, someone else will.

Ways to Decline Free Tech Support Requests

"There really isn’t much I can do with this machine." – This frequent situation occurs when someone wants to run high-end applications on a cheap, under-powered machine. Someone who just bought a 12-year-old 386 for £25 doesn't want to hear that it won't run Windows XP Professional. Many years ago, just to see what would happen, we took a hard disk from a 486 running Windows 95 and put it into a 286 with just 1 MB of RAM. To our surprise it didn’t fall at the first hurdle, but it took nearly 15 minutes to boot. Clicking the start button, however, caused it to grind to a halt.

I was a Navy Cryppie at Osan AB. AF musta had to spend some money and brought all this stuff in with nobody around to install it. Funny as hell. I ran their computer shop for over a year till they brought in a CMSgt that I had to train to run the department. Ran their unit lounge also, Skivvy Nine. God that was a great tour.

Bet the Chief was a retrainee too.
