See the Air Expo- OFF BASE??

I want to take my kids to see the Blue Angels tomorrow without having to go on base. 50,000 people in one spot is about 49,000 too much for me. I was thinking somewhere over in Solomons- Any ideas?

As long as you're not down there for a long long time you can go down to the end of Tippett rd. My parents were watching the Blue Angels all this afternoon.

We took our kids to the Calvert Marine Museum today and rode the Wm. B. Tennison for the 3:10 cruise. My wife can't get over how cool it was to have the planes flying right over our heads. It felt like you could touch the planes! As we passed under the bridge, they flew over at maybe 200 feet, which is about 60 feet over the bridge. Absolutely awesome. You can't get that close at the air show because they are not allowed to fly over the crowd. I wouldn't be surprised if the soloists were more than 100 feet above the water. We could see the pilots clearly.

Cost is $7 adult, $4 6-12, and under 5 free. One hour cruise. They almost didn't run today due to lack of interest. They need 8 people in order to run, and we had about 18 on a boat that can carry 47.

If that price is out of your range, almost anywhere on the island will give you a great view Just get there early - parking didn't exist today.

Have fun!

We'll go out to the airshow tomorrow and let the kids touch some planes, but we'll head home before the Blues fly because they could never match what we saw today.

We had a late lunch on the deck at the Lighthouse Inn and watched them from there and the boardwalk. No crowd at all. What a beautiful day.

We just got back from the Air show a little bit ago. As many people that are there, it doesn't feel crowded or claustrophobic. Had a great time. :yay:

I love the Air Shows at PAX River. MUCHO better than the one's at Andrews. It's just insanely crowded when they have Air Show's at Andrews. You're packed in like sardines and not even worth the hassle.

All of the land on Tippett Road is privately owned -- Not sure why Buddy Lee would suggest this as a site ??

'twas an Apache.. Took my youngest boy around and got to narrate the visit..
We used our ID's to bypass the guards at the runway, went around by the test pilot School and parked in the IMD parking lot(by the Test Pilot School).. had a cooler full of drinks in the back of the truck about 150 feet from where we were sitting.. On exit, we went around by West End Marina, picked up the road out of gate 1, and were out of there within 5 minutes.. Kids kept going to the truck to get drinks.. Ian found a place to stand right in front of Blue Angel #3 so we got to see the Ground show too.. BG found a grassy area to sit with the girls, between the V-22 and the climbing wall, bought an umbrella for her chair and she was comfy for the day.. Kept hydrated, a GREAT breeze.. Great day.

I'd say looking at the viewing line they beat the 50,000 mark.. but where BG was sitting it didn't seem there was any crowd at all.

What a show-:)

Thank you everyone for all your ideas- We ended up going over to the Solomons boardwalk. It was a little crowded but we had a pretty good view of the Blue Angels, they also flew over the bridge a few times which my kids just loved.

Thanks again and have a wonderul weekend.

They flew over the crowd and scared the shiat out of everyone at that! :lmao: You missed out if you left early today!

Quite awesome, they put on an incredible show! I've seen it from Solomons the last time they were here and today was much better then what I saw that time from the island:yay:
