See the Air Expo- OFF BASE??

They flew over the crowd and scared the shiat out of everyone at that! :lmao: You missed out if you left early today!

Quite awesome, they put on an incredible show! I've seen it from Solomons the last time they were here and today was much better then what I saw that time from the island:yay:

:yeahthat: It was awesome! We were lucky enough to get VIP parking and seats from work! Got the kids those ear muffs everyone suggested and we headed out! Got GREAT pictures! The Blue Angels were fantastic! The stunt pilots made me look on with awe. I hate to fly much less do what they did!

I have a friend that works on the V-22 Osprey program so we had pictures taken inside and sent them to him!

I hope they have another next year. This was my first time and it was well worth the 8 hours in the sun! The boys loved it! :yay:

my parents brought their boat down and we anchored straight out from the end of the runway. i swear there were times it felt like we could have reached up and touched the blues. absolutely amazing. i hadn't seen them since I was a little kid, I LOVED it!!!! plus my dad's retired navy and works as a test pilot/engineer, so we got to have an aeronuatical expert right there to tell us what all the planes were.

I was going over the bridge while they were flying and got buzzed by a Blue Angel while on top of the bridge. The girls and I thought that was way cool!

The same thing happened to us as we were leaving- we left shortly before the very end to prevent getting stuck in traffic and just as we were nearing the top we could see the Blue Angels doing their stunt when they all come straight down, then fan out- The one plane came right over the bridge. It was so cool. I wish I would have had a convertible instead of a Mini Van.

I am not sure when the Blue Angels are coming again but I will definitely be planning to go watch them on base, just to see the entire show. I turned down VIP parking tickets and also our company chalet tickets because my husband doesn't like crowds. I wont do that again- :( We will just have to go without him next time. :)

I was there all day saturday. The crowd was not too bad. I just bought a seat in the paid seating area right in the middle. It was a great location for $10 and it never filled up the entire time. It took about 30 min to get off base at the end, but it was not that big a deal. Once off base the traffic seemed light compared to most days.

I gave my camera a good workout. Took 279 pictures. 8 megapixel is extremely nice. I can zoom right in and see the pilots in most pictures.

We watched the airshow from a backyard off Chancelor's Run Rd. May not have been aboe to see too much, but when the Angels were circling, they did it RIGHT over the house. Awsome! Anybody else get to see the pair of bald eagles soaring along with the Angels? What a patriotic sight to behold! Sun glinting off the blue and yellow paint and white feathers at the same time. Simply beautiful!

OMG! I saw them too! I thought I was seeing things, but I knew I was right. What a beautiful sight!

They did not have a bend in their wings. I spotted them south of the base. I only saw one....Thanks for the info though!

They were Bald Eagles.. We spotted them on Friday during the practice run too.. They were directly overhead from our vantage point, end of the runway, where the Catapult and catch cables are at.. GREAT location, but security ran us off... Looked right down the intake of the F-86 just before he turned and climbed out.

We were there sunday and saw one Bald Eagle fly over when the Blue Angels were performing:yay:

Ummm...are you sure they weren't Ospreys? Did they have a bend in their wings? There were at least six Ospreys circling around during the air show on Saturday.

Usually once the Ospreys arrive and start nesting/breeding, the Bald Eagles move on to other places. It's Osprey nesting/breeding season right now.
Quite sure. I have seen lots of Bald Eagles in my time. A lot closer than this too.

Took out the sailboat and anchored in the same area. Great vantage point, awesome show.

Only downside was a boat anchored close by decided to bring both of their dogs along. One dog didn't like engine noise, barked continously the whole four hours we were out. Airshow, hundreds of boats, engine noise, go figure :duh: Some pet owners :ohwell:

Question for any of you jet/plane experts. Noticed on a couple of passes by the Blue Angles, two of the jets had their landing gear down. Any particular reason for this?

Blue Angels don't do stunts, they just show what the planes are capable of.. what you saw was them showing how maneuverable the planes are "dirty", or in landing configuration, and how slow they could actually fly.

Shame you can't see what I see most days... it's impressive.

I work next door to the Catapult and the Arresting Gear.. some days I get to see them cat an F-18 practically straight up, then the next day or two, I get to watch them land using the arresting cable.. it's ALL fun!! Wish they could find a way to show it in use at the air show..

Sweet :yay:

Very impressive site when the F-18 goes into straight -up rocket mode. I'm sure it's even more so when launched from a cat.

Never seen cat ops @ Pax, but have had the experience of watching day/night lauches and traps on a few carriers.

As far as demonstrating cat ops during the Air Show, perhaps a video feed to a Jumbotron?

that was my thought.. they do it for the UAV demo on Webster.. let everyone witness a cat shot and a catch.. pretty remarkable the first time you see it.

And you have me beat.. still awaiting my first trip to the carriers..
