Seeking 2 beagles to adopt

ArkRescue

Adopt me please !
After losing Shorty a few months ago to Lymphoma, my family is now ready to adopt 2 beagles. They said they prefer 2 that need to stay together (siblings or just buddies).

I know it can he hard to place 2 dogs in the same home, so I'm hoping the forum folks can help us find some good candidates to consider that need to, or should stay together.

RIP Shorty, you were one of the best dogs ever!

Tri-County said about 6 to 8 beagles have been pulled in the past few weeks by the beagle rescue folks, so I left a message with the Beagle Rescue of So. MD to say we are looking for a pair if they have any that would be best adopted together.

She is such a sweet girl, but we have a lot of anxiety issues to work on. My husband still cannot get near her and when she is in the yard you cant touch her. It's like she is scared you are gonna "catch" her. In the house she curls right up next to you, until my husband walks in. Then i cant even touch her. The vet is coming to my house Tuesday to observe her behavior and then on Wed I have a trainer coming. We will work it out eventually :)

aww you're such great people to help her work through it! Not everyone is willing to deal with an animal with issues. I know at times I look at my gelding and threaten to take him back to the rescue he came from, but honestly inside I love him, and I understand his behavior, even though some of it is just him being a butt-head LOL

Lol. There have been times after she has gotten into something my older daughter says, no wonder you were at the pound!! She just has to learn her manners now. We had a little bit of a breakthrough with her anxiety last night though. We had company over and she came in the house on her own and even went up to one the guys and licked his hand. We got so excited over this but the guy looked at us like we were crazy, lol. And she also let my younger daughters friend come up to her and even took a treat from her. The vet recommended a DAP collar. I dont kow if that is what is working but thats the first time a stranger has been able to touch her without her trying to run away. I was a skeptical about it working but i have noticed a little bit of a difference in her since we put it on.

Hello Roxie! Let me just say that I am so happy that you are willing to work with a Spedial Dog. I think that's wonderful. One of my Granddog's is a recent Rescue, and he too came with a bag full of issues. He came from a Hoarding situation. He didn't like Men at all. It took him several weeks before he started coming to my Son-in-Law. We have Socialized him to other Dogs, and to people..especially Men. It's been 5 months since he was adopted, and he has come a LONG way. I keep him when my Daughter's Family goes Camping, and we have our Business from our own Home, so he is exposed to men all the time now. He's come out of his shyness, and comes up to almost ALL Men now. It just takes time, and patience. Your Pup will do the same. Good on you for adopting, and I hope that good things happen for all of you!!

We have a sweet two-year old beagle named Reagan. He is comical to say the least. I have had beagles all my life and adore them.

Unfortunately, we are looking for a home for him because we have a miserable neighbor who wants total silence 24/7. Reagan doesn't bark much at all but this man thinks he does. He has called the animal warden on every pet-owner in the neighborhood! I don't like a lot of barking either but his guy is a real jerk. All our pets are inside all night and outside off and on during the day. I repeat, he doesn't bark hardly at all.

We have two other dogs - an elderly beagle and a three-year-old chocolate lab. Reagan gets along beautifully with them both. Reagan loves to sit right up against me on the sofa (when permitted), is house-broken (he will even ring bells hanging on our door knob to let us know he wants to go out). He is a sweetie, but this issue with the neighbor is causing me a lot of stress. Our other dogs hardly bark at all.

I don't know if you would even be interested in him, but thought it wouldn't hurt to try. He loves to play AND he has a funny little dew claw on one of his back legs. We call it his "lucky toe".

Anyway, even if you are not interested, I am glad to have found another beagle lover like myself! God bless! I'm sorry about the loss of your precious dog.

What did the animal warden say to you about Reagan?

Shorty used to bark at anything he saw or heard outside. He especially did not like the mailman, and he would would climb up the pet stairs to hop up on the chest (put there just for Shorty) to look out the big picture window. When he saw the mail truck pull up to the mailbox at the road, he would go nuts. They always knew when the mail had been delivered LOL.

How long have you had Reagan? Your neighbor sounds like a jerk. Beagles are just being beagles when they bark. Some people just don't like the sound of a beagle barking. I'm used to it obviously, because it never bothered me when I was there visiting.

I personally would ignore the neighbor if I were you. Sounds like they are being unreasonable. Life comes with noises. Reagan sounds like a sweet dog. They are hoping to find a pair of beagles that are bonded to one another. So one single beagle wouldn't be ideal for them at this time. I hope you reconsider and keep Reagan and ignore the neighbor.

The animal warden asked us to buy a barking thingy that looks like a bird house. When a dog barks it will emit a sound that only dogs can hear. The sound will distract the dog from barking. It works somewhat as long as he is within range. It was $50.

We were told that if the neighbor continues to complain to them, he may decide to take us to court. They suggested that if it comes to that we should get other neighbors to sign affidavits or come with us to court to testify that Reagan does not bark excessively or hardly at all. The various wardens that have come out were very nice and seemed to sympathize with us. It is just so frustrating because we want to be good neighbors but feel he is being a jerk.

I understand that they want to get two beagles. Dogs really are happier when they have a buddy.

Shorty sounds just like the beagle I had as a child! Bruno was just tall enough to stand on his hind legs to see and watch for the mailman. He really thought he was quite the security guard. Nice memories.

Thanks for your suggestions.

It amazes me that people who can't stand noise will buy a home in a neighborhood where there are bound to be kids, critters, etc. making noise. Some of them are just grumpy people who complain about everything. Others have legitimate issues if dogs that bark a lot are left outside all night.

Boxy barks, but only when he sees/hears something to alert on. I tell him to stop if he is barking at the neighbor that is in their own yard. That would annoy ME if a neighbors dog barked at me in my own yard. I tell him NO and then he looks at me and whines because I won't let him bark LOL.

Hopefully the other neighbor and I will get Boxy's exercise area fenced soon so he can go play without a lead on. For now we are sharing him <g>.
