Hey guys, i'm just a player for the lions but after reading all of this i'm really confused. This team isn't even in the ecfa. They might get accepted. and 50,000 to start a team? wow. the lions are in their 3rd season as a franchise and i know the owner has not come out of pocket more than a couple of hundred bucks at the most. These fees don't make any sense. it cost us 20 to tryout and that goes towards our 220 player fee. 750 dollars to play for this st. marys team???? that makes no sense. :pete: We all know it only costs like 1250 to get into the league. how can you say it costs 10,000? How can you have stock options for players? Is this even an established company yet? I know the Lions are an established non-profit organization but how can you be a company without even having a league yet? I'm not trying to recruit guys, but as a callaway resident, i'll make the trip to waldorf 2 times a week. something just does not seem right here. On another note, I am very glad there might be another team down here this year. Our first year, everyteam we played was either from jersey or delaware, so this would be a welcomed team. Thanks guys god bless:buddies:

Well all of these things seem like the standard things you recieve anywhere. We are supplied both home and away jerseys and game pants. Our jerseys are also Nfl Quality. Which is more than I can say about alot of teams out there. (i won't name them you will see this season) We get Game pants as needed. If your players rip both pairs do they have to buy the next ones? Our jerseys have the same policy also (though it hasn't had to be done to my knowledge) Game socks are provided as needed for holes etc. but if you lose your socks you have to buy another pair at cost: $3.00. We have not done one single fundraiser in our three year history to my knowledge. All i have ever brought to the team was my 220 or 230 a year. We did go to modells in Waldorf because modells wanted us to sign autographs for the kids.(i don't know why) but there was no money involved. We also get huge discounts at football america. In some cases we are talking about $230 helmets for 120-160. We play at the Lions Den. We are blessed to have our own football field donated by Chaney Enterprises. We are the only team in the league with our very own field. So there is no rental times or anything. We also had lights donated by McConnell Pool and Fuel. The lights will light the entire field. Our practices are always at night to allow for Players work schedules so with out those lights we wouldn't be able to function. They always offer us charter buses to the games but for some reason everyone wants to carpool. I guess it's because when we go to dover or atlantic city on a sat. everyone wants to go to the casino's or whatever. So what we do is follow the coach and he pays all the tolls.lol He won't pay gas because we were offered a keller bus. We also have consessions with everything, bbq, burgers, dogs, halfsmokes, etc. What do you mean sponsor on shoulder? does everyone have to get a sponsor? or is it a team sponsor? So i guess the only thing we don't get are heated bathrooms. I'll talk to the coach about that one, lol. But on a serious note, Our owner is a hard working man just like the rest of us, He's not a business owner or anything, just a regular guy who loves football. This guy has had 2 losing seasons in 20 years of coaching football. Coached 1 or 2 of his own pro athletes, and head coached several seasons at the high school level. I've been blessed to play under him for some time now. Sir, i want to keep this professional so please get the real facts before you state rumors as truth. I am very excited to recieve another organized organization in the league if that makes sense. Right now there are only 3 or 4 teams in this league that are run like real programs. It would be nice if the 2 most professional teams are in somd. We all need to represent. you don't know how much we hear about no talent in somd. we went 11-1 last year and 8-3 our first year and still hear the same garbage. Everyone we beat had an excuse. Good luck Coaches
Oh, do people have to sign contracts this year? Is that a league thing now? I've just never signed one before. :coffee:

Those helmets cost no where NEAR $500-$600!!! Maybe $250 at the most (BRAND NEW and with the faceguard). BTW, I have the 2009 Schutt catalogue right in front of me and because of the nature of my job, deal with the Schutt people all the time just in case you wanted to attack me and say I don't know what I'm talking about.

Sounds as if the Kemps are still up to their old tricks. Buy the stuff for the semi-pro league (sounds to me as if the Kemps have their hands all over this league) from St. Mary's Sports (owned by Don Kemp) at a HUGE markup and think you're getting a deal. And IMO I would not have anything to do with any organization that the Kemps are supporting/endorsing/creating/etc. Which is why my children played over in Calvert.

And if you're 16-years old sitting in the school library talking about this, you don't even qualify to play, run, or be involved with the league. And I might just have to check to see if you're allowed to be in the forums at all... :1bdz:

Actually The schutt catalog is a little high priced. You can get the schutt dna pro anti-concussion helmet at football america for 175 + 39.99 for facemask without the discount . I believe sports unlimited is the same . Not a bad helmet though.

I don't believe Schutt sells direct. You have to go throuh a distributor. The catalogue doesn't have prices. I was just saying that I had the catalogue so that he would know I am comparing apples to apples (or helmets to helmets as the case may be) and that the helmet he's talking about is not even $250 which goes right along with your pricing.

I just have very little room (and tolerance) for idiots. I'm buying my son an Ion 4D which is their latest and greatest, state-of-the-art, and complete with facemask, it's only costing $370. I don't even know of ANY Schutt helmet that costs $5-600. And a DNA Pro+ is several years old. Good helment, yes. But the best, no.

Wow, I'll be watching the rears, especially the tight ends, to see their names. What happens if they fall on their butts in the mud? Will you still be able to see their names? And if the sponsors are on their shoulders, how are they going to score?? Seems they would be too heavy to run down the field with them on their shoulders.

And, by the way, you aren't supposed to fundraise unless you're a non-profit organization. A semi-pro football team does not qualify for a 501(c)(3) status.
