Senior Citizens Rule!

Went to the vets last nite for my old girl's check up (18 years old next month)
The vet was amazed that she was in such good shape for such a senior citizen. Heart was good, lungs were clear, a few cataracts in the eyes but can still see pretty good, she has a bad tooth but doesnt seem to bother her, she eats all her dinner and few snackers. Dr. Meadows said she wouldnt worry about pulling the tooth since it wasnt bothering her, she wasnt crazy about putting her under anesthetic at her age.

I swear I think she will outlive me. Just wanted to share my good news with everyone:yahoo:

I got a percription for my girl and on the receipt, it said 16 yrs and 11 months. One of the secretary's put a smiley face next to it. She's have deaf, and I can tell her eyesight is failing, but she never complains about anything. She's such a sweetie pie.

I will say... you are so lucky to have shared 17 yrs with her.. and more years to come.

I only wish I could share that kinda time with each of mine.

Awww, I'm sorry. :poorbaby: I dont know what the secret is, she is a mutt, got her from the animal shelter in Hughesville November of 93. She is one of the best dogs I've had the pleasure to own.

I had one of my GSD's for 13 1/2 yrs... if it was not for him having DM he would have been around longer.

Mixed breeds are better! they do seem to last longer

You may be right. She is a german shepherd mix. The vet said mutts usually wind up with the best genes of all the breeds they're mixed with.

Yes, my old girl is either losing her hearing or she has selective hearing, only hears what she wants to. Like "snack Time" she hears just fine, when I call her to take a walk, she doesnt seem to hear that. LOL. Congradulations on your "Senior" girl. Maybe we should start a "Senior Pets Club"

I have two 13 year old shih tzu brothers. Can they join? One is losing his eyesight, the other his hearing. They'll be able to lead each other in the rest of their golden years.

LOl thats cute. Of course, I think it would be good idea. My old girl still likes to take her walk in the evening, although, not everyday. If I take her to a dog park, the other dogs are younger and have more energy than she does, so I get a little worried about her getting her hurt. I think once a week all the senior citizens get together to hang out.
