Seperation and School Zoning

Just an update on the situation...she got approval for an apartment in the county this morning. Her lease is not up for the apartment in St. Mary's until the end of October. She called the lady at the BOE and told her that she could show a signed lease agreement for Calvert but will not be able to move until October or she would have to pay penalty fees at her current apartment. The BOE told her that it may not be good enough and she may still have to pay a prorated amount for the girls to attend school for the month of September.

Is this her sister? She told me you had called her and said you found this on here :lmao:

I can not believe that is STILL not good enough for the Calvert BOE! I would raise all hell! I'm sure she was upset about it last night. That poor girl just can't catch a break! The Superintendant has the authority to cut her a little slack for one month. I mean, damn! Give this girl a break! The kids were in Calvert schools all of last year, what's one more month? Do they expect her to enroll them in St. Mary's for one month, and flop around those kids AGAIN, after Calvert County has already done it to them like twice within the county? Better yet, find a daycare for them and tell the provider "oh, I only need you for one month" and expect them to fill their open slot, when a permenant could fill it? I'd write the local papers, call 7 on your side, and put up one hell of a fight. The school board wouldn't be forgetting me anytime soon! How can you be in charge of all county schools, and not have some sympathy for these kids?

Yes this is her sister....She talked to the superintendent this morning and was told to write a letter to the him pleading her case, because of the laws in Calvert.
Just a little extra info...when she enrolled her "special needs" daughter in the special pre-k program the school sytem was notified that the mother & daughters were moving to St. Mary's & the father was staying in Calvert and the school board didn't have a problem with it then. I will try to keep you all updated when I get new news.

Happy Camper!

If everything posted here is factual then I would go above the Board of Ed, begin with the County Commissioners and then work your way to other legislative officals from there.

They can refuse to transport the children to school from that daycare.

True but they can't tell her where to send them.

Tell her to ask how many transfers were granted because the applicants were teachers. I was declined a transfer for my daughter and had to seek out new daycare but another parent (a teacher) from the same daycare was granted the same transfer I applied for. I know of two students at her school now that are not zoned for her school but go there because their mom teaches there.

Reguardless the BOE is giving her a hard time without consideration of the kids. She's obviously trying to conform they're just being harda**es about it.

Hope it all works in her favor in the end.

She heard from the superintendent and the kids are allowed to stay in Calvert schools as long as she can show a notarized copy of her new lease agreement in Calvert. So it looks like things are going to go well from now on...we will keep our fingers crossed.
Thank you everyone for all of the advice and support.
