I just recieved this by email, and since Camily just posted a thread related to this I thought ya'll might find this interesting.

Okay, here's the deal... enter your address... it
will show a "house", that's yours... all the little colored boxes are
Sex Offenders... click on them and you get a name & picture of the
person along with his crime... pretty amazing and scary...

I put in my address and there is one only .22 miles from me, crazy stuff.

Not sure which one is out of date, but the Maryland Sex Offender (<--Linky) website seems to have more people listed for 20659 (Mechanicsville) and the surrounding areas.

the only limitation, it seems, is the Maryland site does it by Zip Code only (surrounding areas, you need to know the zip code for)

I know of a child sex offender in the ccds. The Md State site doesn't know him but in Dec or early Jan someone posted a locater site for people in custody and he was on it. He won't be listed in the State site until he's released I guess. I've done a search on the forums and cannot find it now. Anyone remember or know it? Thanks.

thats the best set up I've seen for scoping out sex offenders online yet

I hope they add more known offenders to it because from what I've looked at elsewhere I know they're missing a bunch

they've got the technology there, I guess it's just a matter of importing a whole database. they might be having to add to it manually, going over the lists and typing them in one at a time.

This site does not have all offenders listed. The Maryland sex offenders registry shows more. (Sad to say, but these are only the ones that have been caught)

Scary! One lives in my neighborhood! I don't have any kids, but I always see a bunch of kids on the street he lives on. I wonder if his other neighbors know?

I just thought of something. I heard before that when a sex offender moves to someones neighborhood, the neighbors have to be notified by law. Is that true?

One lives just around the corner from me. Ive never been notified. I'm not sure how far out the notification goes. In my opinion, I live close to this guy.

I don't think they have to notify anyone. There was one on the street across from me for a little bit about 3 months ago. When the kids from the street came over to play, I printed the picture out full page size and sent it home with them and told them to stay away from him. The kids knew exactly who it was and where he lived (needless to say, he didn't stay long). I bet their parents thought I was a nut job! Then again, I had never met these parents and their kids played at my house (and still do) everyday! I often feed them dinner also. My kids have never been allowed to their houses because I don't allow my kids to go to houses where I don't know the parents well. I often think of how lucky the parents are that I am ok being as they would have NO IDEA!
