Shark Teeth

I want to go on a shark tooth hunt this weekend. I know we will need to walk down to the beach at Calvert Cliffs but anyone have an idea on which way to go once down there? North or South? Is there a particular trail that may provide better hunting?
Thanks ahead.

Word is, Flag Ponds is better for shark teeth...

It is... I know someone that collects.

I've got tons, used to go to Calvert Cliffs all the time, have some really nice size teeth that my son told me are megladon, the size of the palm of my hand. Dug one out of the cliff.

You are really limited to where you can go nowadays at Calvert Cliffs... They have the vast majority of the beach roped off.

I know, I wasn't real smart about digging, but had to have it. Sure wouldn't do it now though.

If you want a much shorter walk and guaranteed shark teeth you should go to Bay Front Park up by Chesapeake Beach. Just a little sifting of the sand near the surf line and you'll start finding them.

Surprised no one has said Breezy Point. Just get there early before the out of towners show up. I have several lamps and a few other containers full of teeth from there. Also found a few arrow heads there.

Brownie's Beach isn't bad either. A lot of the glass beads are found there as well.

I've never gone there, but a few people have told me it's really stinky there. Not sure if they meant sometimes or it's like that all the time.

That's interesting and sounds like fun. I was going to ask where they cam from and found this

We're not sure where they came from although theories suggest things from maybe a shipwreck or indians although we figure the most likely option is a former amusement park that used to be there.
I'll photograph the collection and post a pic next time dad has it out.

I often wondered why I see shark tooth vendors on the side of the road. It sounds like it would be great for the kids too

I went to Calvert Cliffs once and couldn't find any teeth after an hour of searching. Had much better luck at Purse State Park in Marbury, although they were the smaller teeth.

Go to the Marine Museum and look at the display of the cliffs. The sections further north have more teeth and mammal stuff. Further south..like south of St. Leonard have more shells and stuff. Some teeth do make it to Calvert State park...but not a lot.
The Calvert Formation is the ones you want, big teeth, land and marine mammal bones!!
Have fun!
