Shelters sweat the summer with cat surplus

Adopt me please !
"WASHINGTON - Apparently, summer is that time of year when cat owners tell their felines, "It's not you, it's me," and surrender them to shelters.

Animal welfare workers across the region say facilities are crammed with cats. One shelter even declared an "animal disaster" with a critical need for adopters and people willing to foster animals. "

I feel their pain as we still have 6 more kittens and 2 more adults to place. They are all so adorable, but there seem to be fewer people open to adopting even the kittens this year.

Thank you for all you do!!!

I am doing the best I can to not ever be named the crazy cat lady you know?

Now crazy chicken lady? I think I'm getting there. I have more of those than I'd like to admit LOL AND I've taken one of them to the vet <G>.

I found, when looking for homes for my fosters, that everyone I knew was booked. They already opened their homes up to several. One girlfriend of mine was going to adopt one of mine when all the sudden an all-black kitten showed up on her doorstep. She has since decided to keep him and knowing the grim situation at the shelters, digging in her own pocket for vet care and neutering. Homes are slim pickings right now.... very slim!!! I have 3 and feel booked.... thankfully 1 spends almost the entire day outside.... 1 is old (almost 10 yrs. old) and our newest kitten (who is working out very well, BTW) is a gem. I cannot believe our kitten couldn't get a home after being reduced to $10.00... :ohwell: But that is how things are at the moment.
