They point out in the article that it's been a misunderstood fact for a long, long time.

So what your telling me is that I have been walking around thinking I knew what I was talking about........but I really don't :faint:

I also take a multi-vitamin called Orange TRIad which contains a specific joint formula as well. :yay:

Thanks SO much everybody for taking the time to respond.
Let's see if I can fill in the blanks.....

I have always had to watch what I eat, but maintained a suitable weight for my height. However, I quit smoking 6 months ago. I thought I had prepared myself but also starting the NutriSystem diet at the same time so I would NOT gain the weight. Didn't help!!! I tried every eating style, including low fat or low carb. The weight just came....

So, I have an extra 15 to 20 pounds to get rid of!!! When I purchased the treadmill and started using it, the scale FINALLY started moving!!! In the two weeks now, I have managed to drop 7 pounds  (I am eating sensibly as well). When the scale started moving, I started becoming obessed with the treadmill!!!! So, I have done too much, too fast....

Thank you for the warm up and stretch suggestions!!! I am going to take your advice!!!! Also, I did think of the tennis shoes I am wearing causing a problem. I'm going out this weekend to buy a good pair of running shoes...any suggestions?

Go to Gotta Run on Main St in Annapolis. That is the closest specialty running story I know of unless you want to haul tail up to Montgomery County. They can fit you with the right type of shoe for your foot/stride. I wish I had a professional fitting when I started running. Would have saved me some $$ on shoes that were comfy in the store but crap when I got out on the road.

I bought a pair that incorporates the Nike+ with the iPod. I think it's more of a "fad" feature, but it has had some use in the last 9 months... limited, but whatever!!! :lmao: (I *HATE* cardio)

The soreness comes from nerve irritation which is caused by lowering the pH in exercised muscles. This change in the pH comes from increased metabolic waste products accumulated in the exercised muscle.

The term you might be thinking of is the Krebs Cycle, where chemical reactions of this cycle result in these metabolic byproducts.

Nerve irritation = burning sensation = "lactic acid burn".

If you are an avid runner, ie more than 1-2x/week, buy a few pairs and rotate them. Many folks buy 1 pair and wear them too long. It's more expensive but worth it if you enjoy running.

WHEW!!!! Buying shoes can be SO CONFUSING!!!! I had no idea before all the different kinds

Since I will be starting Jazzercise this week also, I got a pair of Cross Trainer...I was told by the clerk that would cover my running on the treadmill AND the stomping around for jazzercise. True?

Where did you buy them at? If you are going to run any serious miles then you need to be fitted with proper running shoes at some place like GottaRun or Fleet Feet.

I tried the cheaper way out, and didn't go to a place like that :bonk:
I actually bought them at JC Penney

I should add, they are a name brand!!!

And since the irritation is due to the lowered PH...hmm...well then I guess acidity can still be tagged as a main cause, just not Lactic. I've always been suspicious of the whole Lactic Acid thing but have always told my clients that there are other acidic wastes besides Lactic. This is good info to have. Thanks to you both! :)
