Just heard that shop with a cop will be held next Saturday (12/17/11). Last year they did an amazing job keeping the roads moving with all the cops coming and going out of stores with all the kids. So if you are going out next Saturday to do Christmas shopping like a lot of people do, please try to stay calm, it's that time of year.

Per Sheriff Cameron

On 12/17/11, The St. Mary’s County Optimist and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 will host their 9th annual Shop with a Cop Program. Officers from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resource Police Department, Department of Defense Patuxent River, United States Coast Guard, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, United States Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations will take over 100 children shopping at Wal-Mart.

The officers pick the children up at their homes and bring them to the Wildwood Shopping Center where the officers convoy together in their police cruisers under escort to the Wal-Mart a mile away.

The officers meet at Wildwood at 0830 hours, and travel to Wal-Mart. After shopping, the officers take the children to the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds where they are fed breakfast and the gifts for the children are wrapped by volunteers.

On 12/09/11, a fund raiser will be held at the Red Robin Restaurant in California Maryland. Officers will be on hand to raise money for the program. The St. Mary's County Shop with a Cop organization is a 501c3 charitable organization and any donations are tax deductible.

If any one has any questions about donating to the program they can contact Bill Raddatz at (301) 475-4200x1958.

I would like to say that I have participated in this program six or seven times out of the last nine years they have been doing it. For police officers, this is a wonderful way to help. From what I am told, the kids are selected not only on financial things that may be happening with them, but also on their behavior. I can attest to the fact that I have never had a kid who wasn't needy or appreciative about being able to participate with us. WE are the lucky ones who get to spend a little time with these kids.

My boy was the arresting officer. When loss prevention spotted the guy they told one of the officers doing the shop with a cop, he called it in and loss prevention employee's kept following and watching as he kept going back and forth grabbing more video games, he was like Jack Johnson's wife, had games stuffed in his underwear, pockets and his pants. When the on duty officer arrived, (my boy) the guy was stilll in the store, he and a loss preventure officer stood at the front of the store and when he stepped out of the store he was taken into custody. The suspect recently had a Charlotte Hall address, but gave police a Waldorf address.

I was talking to the guy who runs the thing and he told me they were going to have over 100 kids. I really enjoy this program, it's a nice way to get in the holiday spirit!

Its Great indeed all the parents can give there kids a list to buy more presents on other peoples money!!! Some deserve it the rest don't! I can think of 1,000 Veterans family (people that helped to keep you free and preserve the constitution of the United States of America) families that have jack. Yet welfare Mike Mike gets all the gifts....and they are getting public assistance while the veteran sleeps in the cold under a bridge.. Good Job... Next Time get dressed and crawl under a bridge and save the man or woman who protected your freedom !! So Sad that if you are on WIC or WElFARE everyone feels sorry for you.

I don't think anyone want's to neglect one for the other. These types of events do help families and kids. In any system where something is given there will always be the undeserving that find a way in. My hope is that local volunteers, businesses churches etc would step up. Local inititives like these do better rooting out the users than big government does.

I was a bit ticked off and should have started a new feed, I saw veterans standing outside to wait in line for a shelter today it nearly killed me to see it. This is a great program and I just wish that more people would do more for more people.

I think that this program is great, but I just get upset when I see Veterans Standing in line at a homeless shelter. Its like they are forgotten. I know its hard to make the comparison. I was just so mad because I saw this and then read this. I know its self defeating to get mad over one and the other because one is a good thing which helps people, but I guess that is just the way it is. I am glad that someone is going to be happy this holiday season.

STFU you self righteous arrogant pr*ck. Who made you the authority on who deserves help or not? Because these kids were not afforded the proper birthright they should suffer? F-U and those who agree with you.

To the rest of you, have a happy holiday season.
