Shopping for a dishwasher...good ones??

After 6 1/2 years, ours bit the dust. Too many rounds of washing soaked the circuit board a few times (had it replaced twice) and you can only replace it so many times...a money pit!

So, we are in the market. Would love suggestions of new models that you may own, or a dishwasher you have had over 5 years without issues. We need a stainless model, but do not like the stainless interior unless it's ultra quiet. (probably impossible).

Our top wire rack was always too shaky for my taste and the glassware did not get clean enough. I have noticed newer models with an improvement in this area. We would also prefer a quiet model for nighttime washing...and honestly, so would the dog.

Thanks for any product advice you can give.
I was told to check out the Appliance Store in Mechanicsville and Lowes.

[We have a stainless steel (inside and outside) Bosch dishwasher. One thing that is particularly nice about it is that it is VERY quiet. It cleaned very thoroughly, too.

We've been in the house for 18 months, and I think that I've used it - maybe - 10 times. I just prefer to hand wash my dishes, unless I'm having a big dinner party or something like that.

Bosch Dishwashers :yay:

that's what I have heard.

Believe it or not, check with the people at Lowes (if in St. Mary's).
They carry a number of lines and can give you a decent comparison.
Or if you have a good repair technician ask them what they think.
I know the guys that we use for appliance repair will tell you what they think of certain products.

Really :faint:

When the dishwasher was working we normally would hand wash them but put them in the dishwasher to really clean them good and sanatize them. I have been handwashing for a month now and cant stand it!:cds:

Yep. We got ours' from Sears back in 2005 when my old dishwasher crapped out on us, and it's still running GREAT! I use it everyday. It's very quiet (people told me that), and all my dishes comes out very clean. If they aren't clean, you need to pour white vinegar in soap tray and turn the dishwasher on by itself with nothing in it to let it clean every once a month.

Really :faint:

Kenmore Elite model here, stainless inside and out, got it from sears and it is very quiet...dont recall the numbers on it but it was quieter than any other model they had on display that was up and running/working when we bought it. Cleans great! In laws had a Bosch when they lived here and it seemed to work pretty good as well...

Find someone with a copy of Consumer Reports that compares the new models.

I have a Maytag that has been terrific for over 10 years, MDB8600AWW. I got this one because it has 3 racks instead of the normal 2. The bottom-most rack is flat with no prongs, great for large pans. If you remove the 2nd rack, you can put huge soup pots in there. Very quiet.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your input on the forum. We can all help eachother :)

Will check Bosch out and I do like the three rack system. Will check that out too. Family of four, but that bottom rack for pots etc. might even make us eat out less! LOL

The problem with the other name brands, like MAYTAG, is that they are no longer manufactured in the USoA. The name is the same, the production line is different.
Kenmore is even worse, Kenmore is a product manufactured for Sears by another. You have no idea who is building that product now, the Kenmore from 3 years ago could be entirely different today. You have one source of supply for Kenmore service - SEARS.
One of your best sources of information on reliabilty and maintainability of applicance is your repairman. It's one thing P&W was so good with, they not only sold various makes and models, they serviced them.

Absolutely true. My Maytag was also a Kenmore and Whirlpool under different models, but the same unit.

I love my KitchenAid Stainless Steel washer. Cleans like nobody's business too. Quiet too. I had a GE that came with the house, and it didn't hold a candle to the KitchenAid. Bosch was out of my price range. Whatever.

Wow! Thanks for printing all that for review. Helpful info.
We have all Frigidaire stainless appliances and thus far the only thing that "went" and it is due to poor design of the keypad, is the dishwasher. No complaints otherwise, but looking at these others, they do more than mine does, and maybe, just maybe they will save me lots more time. No rewashing!

Thanks again. I love when the forum is so helpful like this. I've seen some pretty goofy posts before LOL
