Hi all....at what age did you start your baby on a sippy cup (but I assume still keeping bottles too). Thanks!

A friend of mine had her baby using sippy cups by the age of 6 months. But in my opinion that is too young. Babies have a need to suckle. It's instinct and I don't think that needs to be messed with.

I hate sippy cups. My boys were done with the bottle before they were a year old and onto regular plastic cups. I've can't stand to see a child tote a sippy cup all over the house, spilling and dribbling milk, etc. all over the place. I used to make them sit at the kitchen table or just sit on the floor somewhere and hold their cup to drink.

And, yeah, I know they have those little rubber things that are supposed to prevent the spilling, but they don't work all that well.

I had my daughter fully on a sippy by 13 months--probably started transitioning around 11 months with offering sippy but still giving bottle.
My son was easier as he was a boob man and never really into the bottle to begin with. He was using a sippy by about 10 months.

Started giving my kids a sippy cup @ 6 months for Juice and water only. At around 11 months I started putting their milk in it as well. They were both off the bottle at 1 year.

I am using a sippy cup for water with my daughter. She will be 6 months on Saturday. I started the sippy at about 5 months. She can actually hold it better then the bottle and you have to suck to get the water out. I offer the cup usually after she is done eating her fruit and veggies at lunch time and dinner time.

My daughter was getting her sippy cup at 6 months for juice and water. I bought the Gerber soft spout ones so you still had to suck on them to get something out. They say 6months and up on them. She was still getting her bottle until 11 months then decided she liked the cup better.

The only one of my mutts that used a sippy cup was my girl and it was only about a week....her and her brothers figured out that if you put soda in them and shake them they squirt rather good

That's the cup I'm using. She things holding on to the handles is great.

My daughter was good at sippy cups with the straw by 9 months - I put the bottles away. When her brother came along a few months later she decided some things were for the baby only and bottles were one of them.

I know Catt still gives Otter one when he is watching TVa and eatting cheezits

Oh God I just got a mental picture of Otter in his Naugahyde recliner with a bib on in his socks, with his sippy cup and a bowl of cheezits on his tv tray next to his chair. :roflmao: God my imagination scares me some times! :killingme
