Oh :nono: Snowshoe is out in West Va. where there are actual mountains as opposed to the hills like Liberty and Roundtop. Showshoe actually gets a lot of natural snow, and the backside of the mountain, (Shays and Cupp) are some pretty gnarly trails. Not like anything out west, but great for Mid Eastern reagion.

CanNOT believe I didn't know this. I'm a pretty good skiier, and would love to have more challenging trails close to home (close compared to out west anyway). And liberty is certainly not challenging. Should be fun!

5 hours flight would get you to either Reno or Salt Lake City ... oops. I see you mean driving

Well, My wife and I went to Paradise Stream @ Ceasars Pocono Resorts last December (a week before Christmas)for everything - skiing, snowmobiling, swimming, hot tubbing, shopping, romancing, horseriding and one horse sleigh ride. There's so much more fun activities that we tried to do within one week. Simply wonderful times. We went skiing at several ski areas. To name a few ski areas nearby: Alpine Mountain Ski, Big Boulder Ski, Blue Mountain Ski, Camelback Ski , Jack Frost Mountain, and Shawnee Mountain. It's only five hours driving for me. Just about an hour and half north of Philly.

Wisp is nice only if covered in natural snow otherwise the snowmaking machines will cover few trails which can be crowded easily and depending on the cold weather during December which can be iffy. Same for Seven Springs. Snowshoe could get some natural snow in December but still iffy. We had cold winter only for short time in NOV'05 and DEC'05 but the warm spell melt the snow last JAN '06, remember?

Driving to Wisp is probably easier than going to Seven Springs which is easier than going to Snowshoe WV. Snowshoe ski resort are located on top of the mountain which means driving the switching roads from the town of Cass. I use the route I-66 - VA55 - WV55 - WV28 - WV66 to avoid the higher altitude (above 2,000 feet) mountain roads which may get icy. WV33 route is one of those passes that many people dislike for driving when it's snowing or about to get iced.

I have been skiing for about 15 yrs before switch over to snowboarding since 1998. First time I went snowboarding out west was back in '99 I think. I have been snowboarding out west every year since '99. I have some ski trips in plan for this coming winter. Someday I will prepare myself for some backcountry snowboarding and heliboarding /cat boarding.

Sorry for the long post.

Yeah, I am sure it would be a lot of fun. I was wondering though, once you get down, is there ski lifts or something to bring you back up?

Yes the rope lift will hook your tube and drag you back uphill.

Wow, thanks for the great info! Not that I wouldn't MIND going to Reno or Salt lake city, we just don't wanna pay the extra for the airfare (and if we're only going to go away for 3 days, going that far doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense).
All that stuff you mentioned that you and your wife did at the poconos--THAT is what we are looking for. So I'll keep that in mind, also. It has to be the perfect environment for .
