Not that there are too many around here, but maybe some of you have dealt with them? I am looking at a house in NJ that was built in 1888. I do not know if the roof is original, but I am betting much of it is. How high maintenance are slate roofs? The underside of it is exposed, so that if you go in the huge attic, you can actually touch them. Is that normal, having them exposed like that, or can insulation be put below and drywalled in? I know they need a certain amount of play for heat and cold, but would insulation hamper that?
