Jeeze, if somebody would go get that poodle I'll groom it. It's driving me crazy the way it looks. Nobody is going to adopt it with those mats.

I wonder if they could get one of those grooming vans to go to different shelters to clean up the pups and cats for their pix and adoption. Maybe a fund raiser to collect money and a willing groomer to do it at a little discount could be worked out.
When my foster pups go up for adoption I take them to the groomer to get them cleaned up. Our last poodle foster, Paso took care of her for free to help her out. She was adopted quickly to a wonderful home!!:huggy:

Well the min pincher is going to a rescue this afternoon. Why are they not allowed to to tell what rescue takes animals?

Where is the shelter up there? I thought about calling them and going up on my day off, but I don't think it is something I want to tacke on my own. I don't know these people or the facilities [is that spelled right? It looks funny]
If I was a mobile groomer I'd be hesitant to groom them in my van, everything would be have to be so throughly disinfected. It's the same reason I haven't volunteered to foster, there are a couple of animals I would LOVE to foster but because of my customers coming in an out I don't think I can take a dog directly from a shelter.
I'd groom that poodle free just to make it feel better.

The shelter isnt far from the beltway (exit 11), not far from forestvilee mall, I think it is one turn off of forestville road. Its been so long since I have been there. I still would like to know why they cant release the name of the rescue that takes them.

Rt 4 north, take a right onto Forestville Rd, go about a mile or so, then turn right onto D'Arcy road, go about 1/2 a mile and the facility is on your right, they do not have alot of parking there. Brick building, I think it says Prince Georges County Animal Managment or something.

I thought that if an adopter gets there first, then they get to adopt the animal?? That is how Tri works.

I havent been there yet. I was going tomorrow after I left petco. I called just to make sure it was still avaliable, and thats when she told me a resuce was picking her up this afternoon.

I left my name and number for them to give to the rescue. I still am coming up to look at jake, and bringing my little man with me, hopefully maybe they will bond:starcat:. I asked the shelter if they were difficult to adopt from, she said no, that basically they just need a reference from a vet in addition to proof you own your home or if you rent then a letter from your landlord advising it is ok to have pets.

The poodle is more like about 15 yrs old, the posting was wrong, but the good news is rescue did take it. I don't know which one.

I don't know why the shelters won't tell you which group gets an animal, TriCounty won't give out that information either, not even to other rescues. Maybe it's to protect the rescue (since most of us do it from our home) from possibly crazy people. I know that sometimes they will make a dog "rescue" only to ensure it goes to a suitable home as most shelters have to adopt to anyone if they have the correct information. (i.e. they might have a beautiful German Shepherd and they want to ensure it goes to a "family home" so they will say rescue only, otherwise someone may come in to adopt it with every intention of making it an outside junk yard guard dog, this is a true example unfortunately the shelter hadn't made that dog rescue only.)

As far as the PG shelter, if you read their site it says that it could take up to 10 days for the adoption to go through. And yes, if rescue puts their name on a dog or cat but an adopter gets there first that wants to adopt and they qualify they can adopt it first.

It was a pleasure meeting everyone as well. Jake is such a sweetie, I know whoever gets him with be one lucky family. Boy, I really would have loved to get Molly she sure is a beautiful dog. I did give KK an application and we are contemplating either Polly or Maria, but we are also keeping a open mind. I would still love to see pictures of Nellie. I did take a ride to Calvert County Humane Society on Sunday to look around and they had a min pinscher they advertised as being 3, but I think she was a little older than that, she has some white around her mouth. Her folder wasnt kept at the shelter because she went home with someone every night and they had her folder.

It funny before I had my son, a dogs age would have never mattered to me, but since I had to put down three animals, one in november, one in december and one in january of this year, I realize that for the first time, I have to look at younger dogs, its hard to explain to a two year old why our best buddies arent coming back with mommy when I take them to the doctor.

We are still open and just waiting to bring a special friend home that will get along with our little man, our four cats and our resident dog and until then I am sure I will be seeing you again. It is so nice to put a IRL face with a fourm member.
