SMC Sheriff's Department is INCOMPETENT!

TPD

the poor dad
This has to be a thread on it's own. I am writing this based on the conversations and text messages I have had with my brother. I believe this to be correct.

Concerning my brother's fiasco with his tags-

Sheriff's deputy stops my brother 7:30am Sunday morning because tag reader tells him to do so.
Deputy takes tags and registration because his computer tells him there was an insurance lapse.
Insurance company says no lapse.
MVA says no lapse - tags shouldn't have been pulled.

Brother goes to Sheriff's office today to get tags back. (MVA had warned him that if Sheriff's office had already turned them in to MVA he would either have to buy new tags or wait weeks for them to be returned in the mail.). Sheriff's office tells him they need proof from MVA/Insurance. He tells them insurance never lapsed so he didn't need proof - it was their mistake. Sheriff's office looks at their computer and says oh, you must have called MVA this morning and had them change it in their system. NO dummy - there was never an issue! Brother hands insurance card to person behind counter at Sheriff's office to confirm insurance. Insurance card shows insurance good for 6 months - July thru January. They go to the back to retrieve his tags - bring them out and hands them to him. He asks where is registration card. They say we don't know, it's not in the bag with the tags. You have to go to MVA to get a new one. Mind you - the deputy took the registration card on Sunday when he took the tags! So my brother asks for something in writing from the Sheriff's office stating they lost registration card in case he is stopped before getting new card from MVA. Nope can't give you anything. Before my brother walks out, he asks for his insurance card. They have lost it! 15 minutes and they lose an insurance card! Then they say he never gave it to them. He asks how they knew his insurance was good thru Jan 20th. Oh yeah you did give it to us but we can't find it now. He walks out without registration card or insurance card. No apology. No attempt to locate either. Describes the encounter as a lot of ignorance and arrogance!

INCOMPETENCE is what I describe it as!

I told my brother to do a FOIA request for all video/audio recording of his encounter on Sunday and today.

And I don't see how any of this will be any better with the hand picked replacement Cameron has chosen.

Sounds like Cameron completely lost control of that department somewhere along the way. That's beyond disgusting behavior...past incompetent and bordering on juvenile.

They have a FB page and email...did you get names?

Probably just frustration on the SMC sheriff's part due to the fact that they cannot stop thugs from shooting each other 3 blocks away from their brand new cop-shop in LP.

I told my brother to do a FOIA request for all video/audio recording of his encounter on Sunday and today.

"Sir, pursuant to your FOIA request. Our proprietary recording system requires a doctorate to search, at an hourly rate of $500. Since the system is not date coded, it must be searched visually inn month long blocks. We estimate this search will require 200 manhours. Once you remit the sum of $100,000, we will commence the search. "

Incompetent…probably not, being an ******* because they knew they were in the wrong in the first place…probably.

It would have been hard for me to leave that place without speaking my mind. Then I would have that target on my back every time I leave the driveway.

Yeah my daughter is dealing with the "lapsed insurance" issue. She has never had her insurance lapse, she provided proof of insurance, contacted insurance company to make sure they did whatever they were supposed to do on their end. They still suspended her tags, now she can't (well won't) drive her vehicle. Good thing she works from home.

They must not have enough money to do their job properly, at least that's what I was told in another thread.

No, you wanted everyone to have their own personal cop to stand guard, and one on every corner to make sure nobody jaywalks.

See how two can play that game?

Completely this ^^^

Tell your brother to get on the Sheriff's Dept social media and raise hell, name names. As @buddscreek said, they need to answer for this.
He will DEFINITELY be marked then.
Pulled over daily...by a different cop. That way, Officer so & so isn't targeting TPB (The poor Brother), he just has bad luck with the law...

Daily speeding tickets add up
Daily inspection citations add up

"Got a call about an incidence...doing a welfare check...maybe you were swatted, Mr. TPB. Prove that ISN'T what happened"
"Yup, got another call...gotta follow up."

What's that term again? Oh yeah!! EXEGENT CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

And let's not forget the ever so popular RED FLAG LAWS...
For anyone who DOESN'T fully understand the St. Mary's County Gestapo...you're damn lucky
