Section 6(o) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, as amended (the Act) generally limits the amount of time an able-bodied adult without dependents (ABAWD) can receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to 3 months in a 36- month period (the time limit), unless the individual meets certain work requirements. On the request of a State SNAP agency, the Act also gives the U.S. Department of Agriculture (the Department) the authority to temporarily waive the time limit in areas that have an unemployment rate of over 10 percent or a lack of sufficient jobs. The Act also provides State agencies with a limited number of discretionary exemptions that can be used by States to extend SNAP eligibility for ABAWDs subject to the time limit.

And THIS is where a lot of people end up working harder than a real job. They work ever-so hard to stay within this gray area.

This type of waiver was used by many states during the Great Recession.

Utter morons, like the ones who infest this site and those who think Donald Trump is the greatest President who has ever lived, became orgasmic when the Gov of Maine cancelled the waiver after the state began to recover from the recession.

The idiot class believed all the propaganda pushed out by people like comrade GURPS that stated the Gov of Maine was making some major consersvative political statement. In reality, they were just to stupid to read the rules of the program.

Any government program is going to have a huge amount of fraud. And it's regional. The Miami area was a hotbed for medicare fraud years ago. Durable equipment got billed and was never delivered to any patient. A lot of people that finally got caught, they all seemed to be eastern European or latinos.
