still a bargin

Funny, I saw this story on TV this morning.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...pany-hikes-prices-make-lost-postage-fees.html

Two Washington lawsuits have been filed against Amazon alleging the online retail behemoth has gouged millions of premium service subscribers by encouraging sellers to hike prices on so-called 'free-shipping' items.

The seperate but similar class action suits claim users of the $79 per year Prime service didn't actually receive the free 2-day shipping on 'millions' of items that Amazon advertised.

Instead, the suits accuse Amazon of offering free shipping on items whose prices had been inflated to incorporate the cost of the shipping.

yeah and people sued because hard drives weren't 20gb after formatting and screens really were not 15 inches but 14.8 measure diagonally

[1024 bytes rounded down to 1000]
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/digital...on-over-hard-drive-capacity-ends-lawsuit.html

Units

The total capacity of HDDs is given by manufacturers in megabytes (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes), gigabytes (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) or terabytes (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes). This numbering convention, where prefixes like mega- and giga- denote powers of 1,000, is also used for data transmission rates and DVD capacities. However, the convention is different from that used by manufacturers of memory (RAM, ROM) and CDs, where prefixes like kilo- and mega- mean powers of 1,024.

The practice of using prefixes assigned to powers of 1,000 within the HDD and computer industries dates back to the early days of computing. By the 1970s million, mega and M were consistently being used in the powers of 1,000 sense to describe HDD capacity.

Computers do not internally represent HDD or memory capacity in powers of 1,024; reporting it in this manner is just a convention.[56] Microsoft Windows uses the powers of 1,024 convention when reporting HDD capacity, thus an HDD offered by its manufacturer as a 1 TB drive is reported by these OSes as a 931 GB HDD. Mac OS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard"), uses powers of 1,000 when reporting HDD capacity.

In the case of "mega-", there is a nearly 5% difference between the powers of 1,000 definition and the powers of 1,024 definition. Furthermore, the difference is compounded by 2.4% with each incrementally larger prefix (gigabyte, terabyte, etc.). The discrepancy between the two conventions for measuring capacity was the subject of several class action suits against HDD manufacturers. The plaintiffs argued that the use of decimal measurements effectively misled consumers while the defendants denied any wrongdoing or liability, asserting that their marketing and advertising complied in all respects with the law and that no class member sustained any damages or injuries.

I said this in another thread, most of the 'Amazon fulfilled' items I have purchased in he last 2 yrs of Prime are with in the shipping cost of a non Amazon Fulfilled item:

widget
- Amazon Price 19.99
- 3rd party seller 16.95 + 3.99 shipping

... and as far as NOT getting 2 days shipping - Items get to my house in 2 days, unless weather is a factor - like this winter

IMHO people are being unreasonable ... I would be willing to wager permanently aggrieved

I recently bought some stuff from Amazon and it took forever to come in. I even got an email "Your items has shipped and should arrive between XX April and XX May" Wait a damn minute. That is 30-45 days? I am an American, I do not give that much forethought! I need it now!

Then it wasn't an Amazon Prime item. I ordered a light about a month ago from Amazon, which didn't have Amazon Prime shipping available and it still hasn't come it. I don't blame that on Amazon though, I blame it on the seller who used USPS to ship. :tantrum: Anything I have ever ordered that has the prime shipping gets there on time or often times earlier. I love Amazon so much I'd like to marry it. :jet:

No I am not prime. I don't buy enough to make it worth it. One item I ordered 3 weeks ago came in yesterday with Chinese writing on it post marked Phuk-a-Duk. OEM to consumer shipping. I had a mental picture of them rousting 2 kids out of their tar paper hut "Geh going, we have ordah!"

I love Amazon, too, and I think Prime is so awesome that I'm not going to complain about the rate hike.

Amazon offers discounted Prime for college students and other groups of people, in case anyone was unaware. I don't know how the rate increase will affect those but it's certainly worth looking into if you're interested.

I use Amazon all the time, don't have prime, but no matter what I order or where it comes from or the time of year, I've never had to wait more than a week. Most stuff I order has free shipping also. Guess I never got the prime thing since it didn't seem like it would make a huge difference for the extra I'd pay. When I order something, I'm never in a hurry to get it.

If they actually launch their drone fleet I will go prime. How cool to sit on your porch and watch a remote controlled mini helicopter drop off a package.

My daughter ordered a couple of things from Amazon and they took almost 4-5 weeks. I didn't realize they were being shipped from another country. You should be able to look that up. Some sellers have that info, most do not. Amazon should have them put the country of origin in their seller info. I love that about ebay.

And yet you and the rest of the Tea Party morons will cut and past posts almost daily about economic issues complaining about lack of jobs and slow growth. Then you make your purchases from overseas companies thru Amazon?

Nah...you and the rest of the looney tune tin foil hatted crowd aren't a bunch of hypocrites...are ya?

95% or everything I buy is from Amazon. I really really hate malls and shopping in general, so Amazon Prime is a must for me. Plus I use it for their online streaming as well. LOVE IT.

If we made anything here in this country anymore it might be a case of hypocrisy. As it is it would be hard to survive on Crayola Crayons while wearing nothing but a Stetson and Chippewa boots.
