I've had the same Leonardtown dentist since 1989. He gives me hell every six months because he's not making any money off me.

Did he take you back to the future?
No, what he did was understand that I took the time to understand what was going on with me so we could cut out a lot of BS back and forth stuff. "Sinus infection, Doc.". "Yep, here's your scrip, let me know if it doesn't clear up."

"Bad discs lower back, Doc", and after three questions to see why I thought that "Okay, here's the order for an MRI and a consult for the best spine guy I know." No BS about gotta do three months of physical therapy or weight loss or other activity that would waste a month or two.

I genuinely don't, and I can remember most of the last 6 decades. Oh, and my grandmother was the nurse for our family doctor when I was a child. He still didn't make house-calls.
Well, maybe he had a firm policy of not drinking and driving.

I did physical therapy for degenerative discs in my lower spine. It only works if you keep doing it for the rest of your life. Who wants to do that for the rest of their life?

Well, the insurance company I was using, took some of my benefits away. I don't go to the doctor anymore... I just use the OTC and the grocery allowance. So.... I switched insurance companies the day before this guy got shot. Figures.... I switched to United Healthcare.

Humana doesn't oversee the doctors. They don't care if the doctor blinds an old woman or not. They don't care if their doctors are handing out drugs for no reason. If the blood pressure cup is off and everyone they see has high BP, they pay the doctors anyway. I guess it's the "human way" to ignore what the doctors do to the patients and not lift a finger.

When we say things are too expensive... they claim "research is expensive".

When we say the doctor blinded me... they claim "oversight is not our job". They just hire them... they don't oversee the service offered.

Doctor spread your cancer.... "oh that happens". Doctor blinded you... "you knew what that surgery is iffy".

My oncologist gave me the advice I use today... and it pisses off the insurance companies and providers both. "If you don't want a doctor to find something wrong... don't go to a doctor."

So I don't go to the doctor except to get the CEA blood test to monitor my cancer. It went metastatic... and now it's everywhere... but I'm not in pain so as long as it's not off the charts, I'm not giving my dividing up my jewelry yet.

IMHO.... it doesn't matter if that guy cut off what he thought was the head of the snake.

Insurance companies are only there to pay the doctors who spread the cancer, blind old ladies, and hook the people on harmful drugs.

Shooting that guy... well it gave us something to talk about... but nothing's going to change.

Well, keeping those supporting muscles and stuff in shape not a bad idea. But good drywall over broken framing isn't any good. Between injections and a laminectomy, Dr Zahir kept me going for almost eight years between diagnosis and finally needing fusion. I didn't believe him, but he was good to word. And since he was moving and couldn't do my surgery when it was time, he hooked me up with a great surgeon who has done two on me now.

Funny thing, buddy of mine born and raised here in the county, when he asked for a recommendation and I gave him Zahirs name, said "No way, I want an American doctor." I told to him that Zahir was a graduate of Ryken just like he was. :)

Ugh. This is why I don't intend to get mixed up with doctors for any long term thing. I can meet my maker at peace but I really REALLY don't want to run the medical gauntlet.

Insurance Companies Drive this ....

I had excruciating pain in Both Shoulders ... I could NOT Go right to the MRI, I had to do a X-Rays, couple of injections, 6 weeks of PT ..., wasting $ 1000's of dollars instead of going right for the $ 500 MRI. I've had this discussion with my Rheumatologist

I ended up with a laundry list problems, basically the shoulder was destroyed and required immediate replacement ... all the while eating Percocet like they were MnM's

the arm bone is raised out of place, at the shoulder
necrosis of the Humerus of the Shoulder ...
complete full thickness tear of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons
<--- This is know as a Rotator Cuff Tear
torn fibers [tendon] retracted 5.7 cm
tendonitis of the subscapularis tendon
muscular atrophy supraspinatus and infraspinatus
degenerative tear of the superior labrum

thinning of the humeral head cartilage

There was also a Ruptured Bursa Sac

So in my case, I was able to go straight to a neurologist. Once I explained to Doc Brown exactly where the leg/foot pain was, and why I was sure it was the L5/L6 area causing it, he agreed and was able to send me directly. Like skipping Tier One tech support. Doc Brown was gone when my cervical spine went south, but I was able to get the NP filling in for him to send me back to Dr Mo who had done my lumbar by pointing out which symptoms pointed to a C4/C5 issue. Mo had me on the table in less than two months.

All of this was under Blue Cross. No idea if United would be the same.

My employer was ' self insured ' but managed by Atnea ....
I've had the rheumatologists for 15 yrs across multiple insurance companies

So in my case, I was able to go straight to a neurologist.

I was already seeing a doctor at National Spine and Pain for C4 / C5 - C5 / C6 Issues ..
I said hey my shoulder has been hurting like hell ... they had to argue with the Insurance Company to get the MRI done ... luckily the PA bullshitted her way past with previous PT I had done for the neck issues ... rather that 6 weeks of shoulder exercises - which I would not have been able to do given the damage to the joint

Glad everything worked out for you
