So This Is the Latest Trump Kerfuffle

“Yesterday reporters asked me if I thought President Putin is smart. I said of course he’s smart,” he told the crowd at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida.

“The problem isn’t Putin is smart — which of course he is smart — it’s that our leaders are dumb,” he said, adding that Nato nations “are not so smart, they are looking the opposite of smart.”

Mr Trump went on to blame the Biden administration for Russia’s decision to invade its neighbour, an attack that was justified by Mr Putin’s false claims that Ukraine was run by “drug-addicted, neo-Nazi” leaders.

“Under our leadership the world was a peaceful place because America was strong and the perception of our country was perhaps like it had never been before: powerful, cunning and smart. We were a smart country. Now we are a stupid country,” Mr Trump said.

Mr Trump called the Russian invasion of Ukraine an “atrocity” in the wide-ranging speech, which touched upon the unfolding crisis in between false claims about the 2020 election and complaints about his treatment by the media.

“The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling, an outrage and an atrocity that should have never been allowed to occur. We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine, God bless them all,” he said.

“When you have a weak president who is not respected by other nations you have a very chaotic world. The world hasn’t been this chaotic since World War Two,” he said.

What the leftist media heard: "Putin is the smartest man in the entire world and I admire him bigly for that." - D. Trump

No kidding. I had to go far and wide to find what he said, fully, and in complete context. And I keep seeing even on HERE, people who somehow have come to the conclusion that the right is rooting for Russia and Tucker is some kind of Putin fanboy. You really don't have to listen to any of the conservative media outlets for more than a few minutes to know what a load of crap that is.

As much as the left likes to portray the right as being black and white/binary/with us or against us - it absolutely does the same and might I add, inserts some of its own fake opposites.

Evidently you cannot observe that your opponent isn't stupid but in fact, cunning and crafty without being - on his side. It's precisely this kind of idiotic thinking that leads to failure - if you ALWAYS believe your opponents are stupid, clumsy oafs who can't find their ass with both hands, I can guarantee they will beat you. I keep being reminded of the famous chess match between Aron Nimzovitch and Freidrich Samisch - whereupon after losing, jumped on the table and shouted angrily "That I should LOSE to this idiot!". A first rate example of someone losing BECAUSE they assumed their opponent was stupid.

I'd love to play Texas Hold "em with these guys.

One of my best friends growing up is one of these people. We used to be room mates for a brief period and played music together. Ever since he became associated with liberals, we can no longer have a friendship. He eats this stuff up, hook, line, and sinker. He repeats it as gospel and can't be reasoned with. He was a friend to both my wife and I, but since she passed I've cut off all ties. Hell, we even have nephews in common from my brother's first misadventure into marriage. It's a shame, but I won't associate with someone who only believes the headlines.

You know, the thing is, I REALLY want the Ukrainians to prevail in this. I want the Russian people to stand up and say I won't be part of this. I want Russian soldiers to ask for asylum in the West, because they were forced into a fight they didn't want. I want the Ukrainian people to do what I have read about them, historically, for hundreds of years - burning their crops so Napoleon couldn't have them. Pushing back the Nazis at terrible cost.

I WANT to believe the positive stories and the images I see.

But just as Putin is lying to his people - I KNOW that some of the positive stuff fed to ME - is bullchit. I've done my due diligence - I've Googled images and found them to be old, far older than the conflcit. I'm seeing stuff that really, can't be true. For example, yes, I do believe that Putin would send mobile crematoria to hide the amount of dead - but I also don't believe that the Ukrainians have inflicted upwards of 5000 casualties on the Russians, or captured hundreds. I KNOW that the Russians rolling in have been fed a pack of lies and are likely learning that now - but it won't change their resolve.

So I don't know who to believe. I do however hope this will awaken our lazy NATO allies into realizing, we can't fight for them when the tanks keep rolling into Berlin, and Paris. I do hope that the rest of Europe will take a cue from Ukraine so when Putin growls at anyone who assists Ukraine, they colllectively stand up and say "do your worst".

For a moment let's forget Ukraine and Putin and just look at how smart our leadership is.

On Biden's first day in office he took out his pen and destroyed our energy independence.
Biden is pushing a Green agenda we are 20 years from being prepared for.
Our country went on and on with this Virus BS shutting down business ,wearing masks , firing people who refused the jab,
Biden opened the border and thousands marched across to get welfare, flown all over the country ,free medical, free education, and taking jobs from Americans. All of this "free" paid for by American tax dollars.
Over a hundred ships sitting on the California coast waiting to be unloaded.
Rampant Inflation. Buying Russian oil while Russia is fighting a war with money we are supplying while buying that oil.

I ask anyone in this forum , has anyone seen anything smart that Joe Biden has done since Jan. 20, 2021.?

You know, despite the empty shelves (for some items - stores are now savvy enough to fill the empty shelves even if it means filling it with inventory that isn't likely to move) I'd largely forgotten about this - hasn't been much in the news but a great deal of that is because - we've all gotten used to the fact that you might go to the store - and - they still don't have it. The long overdue easing of pandemic restrictions is competing with Ukraine for top news coverage.

An article I just read said that it is EASING - but it is still extremely high by historical standards, since a backlog of 80+ ships is outrageous given that in the past - there was never a backlog at all. Right now - article was dated yesterday - 18 day wait for a berth. Still pretty bad. How long does it take to go through the big ditch?

Yeah well, Ukraine has always been part of Russia since the 9th century. Now, what is happening is a geopolitical event based on resources, Crimea and the Baltic and Black sea control. During the the ending of the cold war chaos, in 1991, Ukraine declared its independence from mother Russia, the old Soviet Union. Seems Putin is just getting around to reining Ukraine back into the fold.

It’s at a minimum odd to be saying anything positive about our enemy. Imagine if anyone had said something positive about Osama?

But honestly in this forum if two skyscrapers were destroyed in NYC this week I can think of a few that would cheer the damage to that ‘hellhole’.

Yeah, but that's kind of like saying Scotland has always been part of England.

What I still don't get - and I've spoken to Chinese IN China - is why after 70+ years they still think this tiny island in the Pacific is still part of their country.

Maher DID say something "positive" - and they chitcanned his show. And while I've never been much of a fan of his - he was right.

With Scotland, only as far as being on the same land mass, sure, but definitely separate. With China, say something long enough and it becomes true?

It always strikes me like a guy who was dumped by a wife or girlfriend - and insists she's still his wife long after she's married another, had kids, grandkids and is living in a rest home. You want to shout to China, for God's sake, get over it already. You have 1.5 billion of your OWN to worry about.

At least with Ukraine - if Europe sits back and does nothing while a sovereign nation is CONQUERED - there are legitimate REASONS. It's access to the Black Sea - it's a buffer - it's rich in oil and gas and minerals - it's flat and has outstanding farmland - and the people speak your language more or less.

Taiwan is a rocky little island of no real importance. It's just national pride and they need to get over it. As it is, they lose their chit ANYTIME ANYONE refers to it as a nation.

Thing is, when the situation is reversed - and it don't smell right to me - I check the details. Because I know from experience that both sides lie to me. The idea of ultra patriotic right wing people further to the right than me would all be cheering for Russia stirkes me as the most ridiculous calumny of my lifetime, especially since it so flies in the face of simple logic.

He said we were acting cowardly by sending missiles, that doesn’t seem like positive accolades for Osama, does it?

And he still lost his show.

We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That’s cowardly,” Maher said according to transcripts

His next remark -

“Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it’s not cowardly,”

And he WAS right - having the courage to die for your cause - that's brave if delusional.

I'm done with this. They're right, you're stuck on stupid. Come back when you've dislodged.

This is the part of the speech that the media should be spending most of its' time & focus reporting on.
