All right you guys, what's the deal? Set me up for a ha ha did we? I went across at 4 p.m. and there was nary a car on the road. I sailed over at full speed and arrived 45 minutes early.
It is hit or miss. I pass there everyday about 4 -4:30, some days it is backed up, sometimes not so much. I don't think anyone was funning you.

I have heard, yet again, a rumor about the Solomon's bridge closing for repairs for an extended period of time. Can anyone else say they have as well? :snacks:
According to SHA, they will be starting back up with the joint repairs, so we'll have the steel plates. There will be overnight lane closures.

I have heard horror stories from when they did close the bridge a few years back. They ferried people over to the base. I really hope that does not happen again. I don't think I have the patients to deal with it.

OK, you caught me !.........Busted. !!!
I get off work 4:15 pm at location "X".
Am sailing across the bridge at approx 4:23 pm.
When I get to the top, I slow down to 35 mph until I make my right
turn into Solomons, thus starting the horrid backup that will last
for hours.....

but seriously, the Calvert County commissioners have been rallyin'
to get the retired USS Forrest Sherman (DD 931) to be pemanently
enshrined at the Solomons Rec Center/Annex (formally N.O.L.).

Talk about yer' bottlenecks and rubberneckin'
if that ever happens !
The Bridge at peak rush-hour would be a parking lot.
All it takes now is for a seagull to fart, and the bridge is
backed up for hours !

Why would three people per year visiting the old rust bucket cause any traffic problems?

everyone would want to slow down to catch a glimpse,
this would also cause a lapse in driving concentration.
There is enough of that already.:jameo:

I lived in Lusby at the time and thankfully had just quit my job at Pax for one in La Plata so I could take 231 to work instead of going across the bridge. I felt really sorry for the "boat people" and their lovely commute. :jameo:

The summer of 1988, the hottest gd august on record !
What normally takes me 8-10 minutes to get to work,
that year - took way over an hour.
So many stories, don't get me started.

Early 70's, before the Bridge was built, We use to commute from Solomons to
Ryken via Navy boat from
the Rec Center (N.O.L at the time) to Town Creek Marina (now Neptune's).
Then catch a bus to Leonardtown to the school.
Many a cold damn day crossing !

Oh, I remember it well and the stories told to me by the ladies who worked in my doctor's office and people who worked at BGE about their hellish commutes. They were NOT happy campers, especially when nasty weather made their commute even worse. :seasickness: :barf: :lmao:
