On April 4, 1996, Southern Maryland Online went live with a few pages and a dream. We were very excited to get our first hit report, showing that 200 visitors had found us. Today, we serve up millions of pages a month to more than 250,000 visitors!

In our 23 years of service we've welcomed folks who are relocating to SoMD from all over the world, along with those who have lived in southern Maryland their whole lives. We've helped thousands of people find new jobs, new homes, and new friends. We've celebrated the births of their children, mourned with them when they've lost a loved one and helped them reconnect with long-lost pals. Every week we receive emails from readers whose lives we've touched, and who have touched our lives in return.

Thank you to all of our visitors, who make every day a pleasure to come to work. And special thanks to our sponsors, without whom there would be no Southern Maryland Online. It's been a wonderful 23 years, and we look forward to 23 more!

I kind of remember the Fire Away columns.

Everyone, Ken King is directly responsible for the existence of the forums. When I was writing Fire Away he used to send me hate mail  so David thought that it might be a good idea for everyone to be able to criticize me.

:jet:

And here we are today!

Wow.... I never knew that.

Because of SOMD.COM, I have met an eclectic bunch of folks that have been a joy to know. I found/adopted a 4 yr old mini-schnauzer that became a beloved member of our family, I was able to voice my thoughts in a thread regarding buying puppies that match exactly what we want which lead to me having two new members of the family. Hanging out at Jethros, doing Jello shots from the kids table at BadGirl's, finding the carrots to my peas (Sxyprincess), seeing Neil Diamond in concert at Rendezvous... and then Elvis showed up! So many great memories. Thank you SOMD. Oh... and SOMD radio is the reason I "Have Love... Will Travel"
