When he says "Southern Maryland drivers who really don't care about anyone but themselves," you have to take it in the context of the story. He's saying drunk drivers only care about themselves. This statement is true. Drunk drivers are selfish and deserve any punishment they get. If they are publicly humiliated - good.

You are insulted by the statement "the Southern Maryland drivers who really don't care about anyone but themselves" because you think he is saying that ALL Southern Maryland drivers don't care. While the sentence is poorly written (like most of their stories), you are reading outrage into a benign sentence. He is talking about drivers who don't care, not all drivers.

That wouldn't have been my objection. It may be increasingly common to editorialize in newspaper articles, and I may actually AGREE with the comment - but I prefer newspapers to simply report the facts. If it's going to rain on the weekend, tell me that some events may be cancelled but don't bother to tell me how much it SUCKS.

I agree for the most part, but just because SMT calls itself a newspaper does not make it one any more than the Enquirer is. Going to SMT for facts without opinion is like turning on O'Reilly or Olbermann and expecting them not to insert their own interpretation of the news.

If you want news, read a newspaper. If you want sensational psuedo-news and gossip, go to SMT.

I have to wonder, though, why you would look to that rag for fair or accurate reporting. It is the local dirty secret. Everyone pretends in public that they don't read it, but then they sneak a peek in private so they can get the gossip about their neighbors. They thrive on gossip and sensationalism. Don't be so shocked when they give it to you.

So what your saying that is the magazine my neighbor recieves in the mail each week in a plan brown wrap is the St Mary's Today? Now it all makes sense.

From all the post it would seem this outlet has a sour reputation with readers. I do give it credit for reporting news at the local level especially for recognition of local Fire and Rescue but I think it fair to critique its contex since the paper supposedly reflecs the interest of SOMD. I would much rather do that then simply cut and past news stories from other outlets into this forum.
