Some Discipline is needed to understand the Book of Revelati

"....a knowledge of the rest of the Bible is imperative to an understanding of the Book of Revelation. It is calculated that there are over five hundred references or allusions to the Old Testament in Revelation and that, of its 404 verses, 278 contain references to the Old Testament. In other words, over half of this book depends upon your understanding of the Old Testament."

Revelation I: The Prophecy (Revelation 1-5) (Thru The Bible Book 58) by Dr. J. Vernon McGee

I've told people over the years that all they want to do is study the Book of Revelation and it is evident that they aren't an expert on the rest of the Bible including Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah.
In other words, people just want the icing and they haven't baked the cake yet.

So, what you're saying is the habit that I've developed of picking up the Bible and reading random verses is a waste of time. I'm following seeker's posts about Revelation with great interest, so I guess since I am not as learned as you, there is no need for me to read further, just simply accept what you say?

Yeah.

Yeah.

If you are like the people who never show up for a Bible study but only show up for a study on the book of Revelation then you are basing the interpretation on parts that you've never read that tie back to the Old Testament.

Fair enough. I can agree to that.

but I don't need to go to Bible study, I simply read it for my pleasure and let it speak to me as it may. I find it intriguing, informational, thought provoking and entertaining.

And do you make lists of 200-500 observations per verse?
And do you cross reference the verse in Revelation to the Old Testament? What tools do you use?

Sorry, but you are a fanatic. Period. That will get you no where. JMO.

I just said, I read it, reflect and let it speak to me. I use my mind, chuck, use my mind. It's a book.

And what do you have to do one day when you find out it is real? How do you bring your work up a notch?

I think you have more questions than answers. It seems from what I have seen you post that you are the most uncomfortable in what you believe. JMO.

My daughter use to share her pool with the preacher's kids.

The preacher's oldest daughter loved her father very much. She would still tell you that he is the greatest.

My daughter was new to this whole Jesus thing. She loved Jesus, and Sunday School. She had just been baptized.

One day the preacher's kid and my daughter were talking in the back yard. As expected, the topic turned to God.

The preacher's kid told my daughter that she couldn't be a good Christian because she didn't devote hours upon hours studying the Bible and memorizing the verses.

I love my daughter but studying and memorization are just not her thing.

My daughter now works in a nursing home, caring for the sick and dying. She hasn't picked up a Bible or gone to Sunday School in years.... actually she hasn't really been interested since the PK told her that.

Sure, I know you don't grill a steak, throw it on a plate, put it in front of an infant, and expect that baby to eat it.... even an eagle will chew meat before feeding it to their young.

Revelation, fed correctly, is something that everyone should hear... or read.... maybe that's why there are dragons in the story....

I know I'm not supposed to.... but I read my horoscope every morning just for fun.... I don't take it seriously too much....

This is what my horoscope said this morning. I'm a Libra....

You certainly don't like to be preached at, so you should be able to understand that no one else does, either. Use your empathy, today. Let it prevent you from shoving your beliefs down someone else's throat. So if you were thinking of climbing up on that soapbox, stay off it! Your success and happiness are something that people are happy about, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you have all the answers to their problems. Let them work it out on their own.

The secret to goodness and being closer to God is lists and cross-references? This is the secret to knowledge? Good to know. Different strokes for different strokes, your particular brand of "crazier-than-a-bag-of ADD-cats-on-catnip" may just not be for everyone else outside of your Legion-filled head.

I took Physics in college and the lab professor took us to a planetarium and he showed us what the stars would look like in 10,000 years. You can't make out any images in the stars to get horoscopes from.

Should a Christian consult horoscopes?

In case you are wondering, my sign is the sign of the cross and not to be confused with what Catholics do.

Excuse me? Horoscopes are condemned by the Catholic Church. "All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone" (CCC 2116). Please, for the love of God and the sake of your own soul, stop being a dumb fuck.

You could have conversed in this thread without ever having to mention the Catholic Church. Your obsession is akin to the practicing Satanists who would have nothing if it weren't for mockery of the Church. Truly, if your faith is so reliant on debasing the Catholic Church, then you are extraordinarily weak and not only in character. If you don't have the discipline to present your faith on it's own merits, then you surely don't have the discipline to understand the book of Revelation as you claim and everything in your OP is pure hubris.

Oh, Chuckt, you totally missed the message.....

Please don't clobber people with research.... they will not read it. They won't learn from it if they don't read it....

I totally depend on the Word, I only read the horoscopes for fun.... and laugh at them.... LOL

Can you go back and read the context? There is no horoscope sign for the cross. I guess you didn't get it.

I get far more than you realize, but in case I misunderstood you then perhaps you can explain to what purpose your mention of Catholics was.

For some reason it made "sound sense" of stations of the cross. I only meant "sign of the cross" as it isn't wrong to be associated with the cross.
