CNN and MSNBC have that tingling feeling running down their leg right now saying Trump’s speech is the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party in 3 weeks - we just witnessed a doddering old man ramble on incoherently for 90 minutes according to them.

Lee Greenwood started singing and our lights went out. I was like, "WTF???" Came back on a few seconds later but our TV was messed up and had to "reboot" itself. DirecTV. I ended up getting the speech on YouTube until the TV righted itself.

Trump was very somber and subdued in the beginning but ramped it up towards the end. Luckily he ended the speech before he went off the rails like before and said something off the wall.

Great speech though!! Nice touch to have the firefighter gear on stage. Him kissing it was odd but I understood why he did it. Anyone see Barron? He introduced everyone and said his name but quickly said something after that I didn't catch. Was he there last night?

It was a good speech.

My son often would join us for crafts when he was younger - something as simple as carving pumpkins.
His problem was - he never knew when to STOP - stop carving, stop painting. He almost always had a pumpkin with a giant hole in one side, or a painting that came out brown or black, because he wouldn't stop painting.

Trump needs to take a lesson from old Silent Cal - famous for saying few words but it was a conscious effort on his part (for those unfamiliar, I'm talking about Coolidge). He knew people would parse his words and he felt that he should speak in public very carefully. Trump tends to go on, because he doesn't always have a direction - just thoughts.

He spoke very well - I was really hoping to see a deeper, more heartfelt introspective. Maybe something spiritual. Didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, it was good. Just not what I'd hoped for.

It's annoying when people cry for something different, then when they get it whine that it's not like what they had.

I feel like the only person in the world who hates scripted speeches and carefully crafted propaganda. I want to see who these people are in their own words, not the words of a professional writer. One of my favorite things about Trump is that he speaks off the cuff and shows you who he is. He doesn't just recite a script or read a teleprompter, he speaks like a real human having a real interaction.

So it irks me when people go, "Oh, I wish he'd just let someone write a pretty speech and recite that." They're so used to being talking down to and patronized and disrespected that they can no longer appreciate an honest human interaction.

I finally bailed at midnight. I wanted to hear more 'unity' and more reaching out to Inds and, yes, even Dems. He was still preaching to the choir, failing in the opportunity granted by a nationally televised convention speech . I was also disappointed that there weren't more details explaining how he's going to do things. I liked the speech, but it basically was a kinder, softer campaign rally speech.

I wanted to hear more 'unity'

Am I the only one who doesn't want to "unify" with the psychos on the Left? Doesn't want to be remotely associated with anyone who'd wish for the kidnap and rape of a young boy? Has absolutely nothing in common with anyone who would wish out loud that Trump had been murdered? Chooses not to align with those who think butchering and drugging children to try and change their gender is a wonderful thing?

I don't want unity with those sick twisted individuals. I'm not going to welcome them and sing kumbaya. They all belong in mental hospitals, if not euthanized like you'd put down a rabid dog. I never want anyone ever to be able to look at me and connect dots to the likes of Joy Reid.

There should be no room for any of them in civilized society, let alone government. They don't have a point, they contribute nothing of value, and I can't see any reason to "unify" with them.

Maybe. I want to win in November. Nothing else matters besides winning. The Inds are the key to winning. If that means talking unity with them and what moderate Dems are left, so be it. I'll sleep good at night.

Oh I agree. It's clear enough that ANYTIME Kamala speaks - IF she should actually sound intelligent, it's because she's reading. How do I know? Listen or watch the disjointed, staccato style of her voice and the misplaced emphasis. She's never even read it before.

I was heavily in forensics in high school (debate, extemp speaking) and I've done a lot of public speaking. I'm actually pretty good at it. But I have almost never spoke publicly without a card or something to direct my thoughts or include my major points. At my father's funeral, I gave the eulogy - people sobbed and some asked for the written speech. Well, of course I had it written DOWN - it was three pages long. I can't even remember a grocery list of more than three items (that's the truth - it's kind of an inside joke, in our family - write it down, it has four things).

So in a lot of cases - famous speeches are written down. We know that presumably, Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address on the back on an envelope. But it WAS his OWN words.

Not so much but we have to reach a point where disagreeing over an issue doesn't make us hate each other and want to kill each other.

Throughout my adult life, in college and afterward, I read histories of the rise of religions throughout the world - and atheists like to point out endlessly that people are wanting to KILL other people over a difference in beliefs Sometimes - especially with all the Christian denominations that arose in the Western world - the differences are often so miniscule, an objective observer would simply shake their head.

As Bill Maher said once - "my imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend".

But in this country and age - it's not a lot different. Because for so many, politics and social issues have supplanted religion for many. It really has, and the behavior has been mentioned many times - it resembles religion. Believe it or not, one of the schisms in the Christian religion was over what day to celebrate Easter. (There were others - historically, most of them have had to do with authoirty).

But people in this country - they HATE you if you support Trump. I have people I have known, been in their homes and been their friend - but once my political beliefs were revealed - they ended it. Others - they just saw the difference and shrugged it off - they knew me better, or at least, life was too short to make a big deal of it.

THAT is where we need to be. We finally built a nation where you could worship any way you want, and no one was going to kill you over it - but politics is the new battleground and it has to end.

I don't want to "unite". Most of - those guys - believe that "unite" means, agree with them, thus obviating any understanding of the concept. But I want it to be that I can disagree without being an enemy. People can be fans of musical artists and football teams and not lose their sht over it.

THAT is what I want to see. We're Americans, and there's a world that wants to take it from us. And they can do it if we fight each other.

I hate people who want to butcher and drug children. Period. I will never change my mind and I will never "unite" with them. I'm perfectly comfortable shouting down idiots who call that sort of thing "gender-affirming care". They are batshit crazy and any common ground we may have is negated by that one belief.

I hate people who riot violently, destroying whole cities and the communities within them.

It's not "disagreement" - "Oh, I don't agree with your desire to sex traffic 4 year olds, but I will defend your right to your opinion" - that's bullshit. They don't have a right to that "opinion". I don't respect it and I don't respect anyone who goes along with it to get along, and I will never - ever - defend them. I don't want to be associated with them in any way. I want them ****ing GONE.

This is what the Democrat Party has become - violent sociopaths with whom I have nothing in common. Even the ones not actively sex-trafficking children or cutting off their body parts, they are complicit because they don't push back. They go along with it. Their president Joe Biden has said specifically that he champions "gender-affirming care" (which is code for cutting the body parts off of children), and they went along with it. Cheered it on and are ready to re-elect him or someone equally reprehensible.

If sane people want to not be hated and want to unify, they can stop being Democrats and stop aligning themselves with the death and kiddie porn cult. But that is THEIR choice and I will not bow to them in any way, shape, or form.

I don't know any Democrats who actually support that. This is where they have a case of - dammit, my party has left me.

But they still hate Republicans. There was a woman on last night - voted for Obama twice, twice for Biden - and is - very slowly - beginning to warm to Trump. But only slightly. She is mostly independent. Trump is no longer the nightmare he was.

I get that drugging and mutilating children is wrong - but to the left, some of the stuff on the right is wrong - and to hear their arguments, they're stupid - but it's their perspective. They still think the GOP puts children in cages, freely discriminate against minorities and care nothing for protecting the environment - and I mean, environment like, cities where you can't breathe or water you can't drink or even step in. Not environment stuff like, screw the loggers, protect the flying insect that doesn't live there.

They have hate as well, and they see the right - every member of it - as being part of it.

So much we had a blogger say that one less firefighter in Butler - is one less Trump vote. No sht. And not the only one. Yeah, hate enough to not think the guy who got shot was an innocent bystander - but a Trump supporter who deserved to die, anyway.

This has to end. It does.
